Soybeans
Soybean harvest is nearing an end, the weather has caused delays. The yields continue to be variable with some fields achieving record yields while others are disappointing. The largest contributing factor to this variability appears to be the length of time that water remained on the fields after some of the big rains.
Corn
Corn harvest is well on its way now, however the inconsistent weather continues to cause interruptions with the harvest. Tar spot seems to be everywhere in corn. Location, variety and fungicides are some of the factors determining the severity of disease. Tar spot reduces stalk strength, therefore we strongly recommend looking at each field to determine if you need to take your corn off early. Don't get caught with downed corn if it can be avoided. So far yields seem to be good, again depending on how much rain accumulated in your fields.
Wheat
Winter wheat has been challenged the last couple of weeks due to the rain. Most of the wheat that was planted early into fit fields looks good (minus the layering water in certain areas). Wheat that was planted into ground that was not ideal is struggling. There are still planned acres to plant. Look at increasing your population as we inch closer to November.
Clover

Consideration should be given to completing the burndown of clover prior to the start of November. The clover has had sufficient time to establish significant root biomass. Talk to your Wanstead crop specialist for your options to ensure you have the right burndown.
What are our agronomists up to?
Our agronomists are reviewing and requesting soil samples on soybean fields that have been harvested. Work is being completed for fall fertilizer, tillage or herbicide plans. Growers are encouraged to spray their fields that have problem weeds such as dandelions, thistles and Canada Fleabane in the fall. If you can't get a hold of your agronomist, please call the office and we can get you in touch with someone who can help!

Jason, Darrin and Bradey are continuing to encourage soil sampling on wheat ground. We would be happy to get you signed up for your field(s) to get probed. Knowing what your ground needs will help you to spend your fertilizer money in the right places, to maximize on your future crop potential. This year, with the price of fertilizer, soil sampling can help you spend your money where you will be able to see the most "bang for your buck" and maximize benefits on your fields. With the variable rate applicator that the co-op runs, we can help you grow smart and save money! If you are interested in getting your fields tested, please reach out to your salesperson.
