Soybeans
Last weeks rain ranged from a good rain to drowned out fields. Because of the wide range, some fields were able to get the combine out early this week while other fields might not be ready until next week. So far, soybean quality seems to be good. Soybean yields have a wide range this year which is not surprising given the variability in the rainfall this year from field to field. We expect to be busy receiving beans the balance of this week as rain is threatening this Sunday.
Corn
Tar spot on corn is the new disease in our area. All corn growers need to be prepared for next year. The Wanstead team will be able to work with you to make a plan for the next year. Seeing positive response from corn that had fungicide applied this year. Overall, corn looks very good. Be aware that due to the tar spot corn seems to be prone to lodging this year and consideration of early harvest should be made if this is seen.
Wheat
Some wheat was planted in the last 2 weeks may have suffered washout from the recent rains and areas may require replants. Your agronomist can assist you through this process. A lot of fertilizer continues to go down. We are planning on accepting soft red wheat, soft white wheat and hard red wheat next year. Our hard red wheat premium program is looking to be comparable from this year. If this is something that you may be interested in, please reach out to your agronomist for more information!
What are our agronomists up to?
Our agronomists are going over soil samples and making recommendations. Many discussions of options for wheat varieties, fertilizer requirements and herbicide plans are taking place. The agronomists are checking fields to assess variety differences. If you can't get a hold of your agronomist, please call the office and we can get you in touch with someone who can help!

Jason, Darrin and Bradey are continuing to encourage soil sampling on wheat ground. We would be happy to get you signed up for your field(s) to get probed. Knowing what your ground needs will help you to spend your fertilizer money in the right places, to maximize on your future crop potential. This year, with the price of fertilizer, soil sampling can help you spend your money where you will be able to see the most "bang for your buck" and maximize benefits on your fields. With the variable rate applicator that the co-op runs, we can help you grow smart and save money! If you are interested in getting your fields tested, please reach out to your salesperson.
