AGRONOMY WEEKLY NEWS

Soybeans & Corn

Although the wheat crop may be wishing the rains would settle down, corn is loving the moisture! Soybeans seem to be taking the precipitation in stride, but they also don't love to have their feet wet for long, so we are seeing some yellowing in the crop. Overall, it is hard to generalize on precipitation levels since rainfall has been so variable. This weekend's rains alone seemed to have varied from 3/10ths to 2 inches!

Overall the corn crop is looking much better than a week ago, or even a day ago! I have had many people tell me that they feel like they can literally watch the corn grow!

Now is the time to start to line up your corn fungicides. We expect to see some fields with thinner rows use an airplane for this application... this needs to be planned in advance! Make sure to reach out to your agronomist to inquire!

For the soybean crop, on some of the early fields, the flowers are here! Depending on what your chemical plan is, make sure to keep an eye on the stage of your crop to ensure you maximize your returns!

Additionally, keep your eyes peeled for our seed signs popping up across the area! If you have a field you would like signed, please let us know!

As always, please feel free to reach out to either of our branches or to your agronomist if you have any questions! They are often out on the road, so it is best to reach them on their cell phones!

Wheat

We can officially say that wheat harvest has now started for 2023. A few combines are hitting the fields this afternoon trying to get some crop off before the forecasted rains. Moisture levels have ranged from 15.5-20.5%.

We are seeing some signs of mildew already and the odd sprout. With some quality concerns in mind, our grain team is planning on having our drying promotion announced by tomorrow morning at the latest to help growers take GOOD QUALITY grain off earlier. Please keep an eye on our website and social media for this announcement!

As Floyd and Megan have made their way through their 2023 wheat tour visits, they have seen an overall good crop, although they expect that the top yield potential has likely been weaned down due to the drought stint. It wont be long now until we start to see some yields filter in!

Our agronomists are encouraging all growers to soil sample the ground once the wheat comes off. Knowing what your ground needs will help you to spend your fertilizer money in the right places, to maximize on your future crop potentials. If you are interested in getting your fields tested, please reach out to your salesperson.
