Soybeans
Soybeans started coming off the field yesterday, the moisture levels received were in the 18 - 19% range. Some fall fertilizer following soybeans is being considered, we are recommending that this should be worked in. Those who have not applied fall fertility should plan accordingly to adapt these applications to the spring to help ensure fertility.
Corn
Corn has begun to be harvested again. There are no DON concerns as of now. Stalk quality is very important at this point. You can definitely see differences in stalk strength among varieties. Based on the weather forecast we are anticipating a lot of activity for the next 10 days provided the ground continues to firms up.
Wheat
This first round of wheat in is starting to tiller. It is still showing signs of lack of oxygen, "tile run", "yellow wheat". However, it has progressed to have a good canopy for winter, and root mass. Some more planting is being considered in advance of the November 7th crop insurance cutoff.
What are our agronomists up to?
Our agronomists are adjusting plans for fall fertilizer and talking about herbicide plans for spring. The timing is excellent for spraying cover crop, hay fields, and problem perennial weeds. Some plot data packages are available now. Seed ordering is upon us! We are currently contracting IP bean premiums. Soil sampling has is rolling again since we can access the fields. If you can't get a hold of your agronomist, please call the office and we can get you in touch with someone who can help!
