Soybeans
Soybean harvest seems to be nearing an end. The last week has simply been too wet to harvest. Some growers have started today and are hoping the rain holds off and the fields are dry enough. The soybeans seem to still be holding their ground quality wise, but we definitely don't need any more thunderstorms or wind.
Corn
Corn harvest is well on its way now. Some producers have switched the combine from soybeans to corn because the soybean fields are still too wet to get onto. The quality of the corn is looking good so far. Moisture has been dropping quickly, but varies. We have received anywhere from 18% to 27% corn in the last few days. Stalk quality is still a concern for the area, so growers are trying to get it out of the field as quickly as possible.
Wheat
This last week has not allowed for planting. A lot of fields are still quite damp, and not ready to plant at all. Pending weather, we may see more wheat go in the ground, but with the long term forecast it is hard to say. Showers are forecasted for this weekend. The first round of what that was planted seems to holding its own. The warm October weather has provided good growing conditions. In some fields we do see tile runs, but are hopeful they will even out.
What are our agronomists up to?
Our agronomists are reviewing and requesting soil samples on soybean fields that have been harvested. Work is being completed for fall fertilizer, tillage or herbicide plans. If you can't get a hold of your agronomist, please call the office and we can get you in touch with someone who can help!

Jason, Darrin and Bradey are continuing to encourage soil sampling on wheat ground. We would be happy to get you signed up for your field(s) to get probed. Knowing what your ground needs will help you to spend your fertilizer money in the right places, to maximize on your future crop potential. This year, with the price of fertilizer, soil sampling can help you spend your money where you will be able to see the most "bang for your buck" and maximize benefits on your fields. With the variable rate applicator that the co-op runs, we can help you grow smart and save money! If you are interested in getting your fields tested, please reach out to your salesperson.
