Harvest
We’ve had some real nice cold nights to help finish up some of this last corn that is out in the fields. The corn that is planned to be combined and not left out should be finished by the end of next week. Quality of the grain (corn) continues to impress as we get into the back end of November. Corn that was sprayed with fungicide at silking is really showing great yield gains as well as superior stalk quality. (less lodging). We have tested biologicals (Envita) on all three crops and are coming up with some great data. We should have something together to share by the end of the year.
Seed
Seed is ramping up as people are figuring out what they may need for next years crop. It is more important then ever to do a crop plan and figure out what makes sense. Our agronomists will be more then happy to help you out with this. We have been hearing about possibly changing some acres from corn to beans because of input increases. When putting pencil to paper there still is a greater chance of making some pretty good profits on corn.
Wheat
Wheat visually has taken a turn for the better. The fields we have walked in the area look very healthy underneath the soil. Roots are a bright white color and look to go into winter in really good shape.  The color on top of the ground is not an clear indication of how your wheat is doing this time of year.  Looking for 4 to 5 tillers per plant come spring. It appears the early application of a split N is going to be the way to go again this year.
What are our agronomists up to?
Our agronomists are busy with seed sales, walking late planted wheat looking for germination. They are also weighing off plots to examine yield, performance of biologicals, and fertility rate. Crop plans are being discussed and produced for producers. If you have signed up for our myFS Solution CentreTM (at no charge) you can review your plans online. Soil sampling has resumed with the recent drier weather. Give your agronomist a call and they will be happy to assist you with your needs.
