Worship this Week
In a world of lies and broken promises, in a time of pandemic panic and fearful division, who can we trust?

As we draw assurance and inspiration from the ancient poetry and wisdom of the Psalms, we turn to Psalm 62 for a powerful truth in our time: in God alone can we find our peace. But is it true? Join us as we gather to share stories and listen to the bold declaration that, through it all, we can trust that God is, indeed, holding our lives.

Click here to view the trailer video for this series.

This week we we’ll hear from Brian Zwick as he shares his experience of being held by God through the challenging moments in his life. Before you engage in the online worship, take a look at Psalm 62 and see what words or phrases capture your attention and your heart.

A HUGE Thank You from Doris Mowat

This is my attempt at responding to the many warm, loving messages I have received. They were like 'manna' for me.

I have become aware of how deeply your friendships have helped me become who I am.

Moving to Summerhill Parc in North Vancouver is a big change for me and this is a big place however I am beginning to feel at home 'as one of them'.

Peninsula United Church folk will always have a big place in my heart and I send a huge "THANK YOU" to each of you for your thoughtfulness and caring.

Love to all,
Doris
Lenten Study Group on Zoom - Six Monday nights with Rev. Janice starting Feb. 22.
Are you longing for a community of friends to connect with through Lent this year?

Yearning for a few wise souls to share the risky, surprise-filled adventure and explore the places that will challenge you and stretch you to your limit?

This year's Lenten book is full of reflections on hope and change to help us cherish the complex stories of the Bible. It's good to read by itself; it's even more exciting to read together with others!

In this Lenten devotional, daily reflections by diverse contributors invite us to reflect on and embody God’s welcome and love for people who are on the move for a variety of reasons.

Join Rev. Janice on Zoom starting Feb. 22 at 7 pm.

Click here to register. Limited to 15 participants.

Book cost $16.00 (or what you can afford)

We are ordering a few extra copies of the Devotional book for those who wish to purchase them without signing up for the Zoom conversation.
If you would like a devotional book and are not going to participate in the Zoom Study Group, please call the office 604-531-2979.
Join us for a series of six transformational conversations as we engage in safe, meaningful and bold conversations about race. We will hear from a diverse and articulate panel of authors as they share their unique personal experiences, helping us to reflect on privilege in our society. Facilitated on Zoom by Rev. Bruce.

Fridays, 1:30pm, starting on Feb. 12. Space is limited: sign up here.
The Coldest Night of the Year is an annual event that raises money for the hungry, homeless and hurting in 100+ communities across Canada including one right here in White Rock. Once again this year, Peninsula United will be forming a team called "United Feet for the Street" to walk in this year's event.

But of course it's going to be a bit different this year as we can't gather as a large group and walk as a team. This year's Coldest Night will be a virtual event, that is, participants will be able to choose where and when they want to walk. Pick your own 2km or 5km course, and walk it any time between February 19th, 20th, and 21st.

Once again, local fundraising efforts will benefit SOURCES, our local Community Resources Society serving more than 5,000 people living in poverty in White Rock, Delta, Langley and beyond.

There are two ways you can help out:
1. Register as a Walker and walk on your own or with family members.
Sign up Here to register and join our virtual team as a fundraiser and a walker. Registration is FREE. Or,
2. Donate to the team or to one of the team members by clicking here.

If you'd like more information please click here or call or email Glenn Roy at 604-728-8174. Thanks for your Support.
Reminder!
Annual Reports must be submitted to the church office [email protected] no later than the morning of Monday, February 1, 2021.

Invitation for Scripture Readers
Would you like to read scripture during our video Worship Services? We would love to have you join our Scripture Readers team!

The scripture will be sent to you beforehand. On site it is read in large print format from a tablet screen beside the camera.

We record the service at the Crescent site, Thursdays from 1 -3 pm. We are carefully distanced, and hand sanitizer is available. You may stay just for your part of the recording, but many enjoy staying to help with background responses, and to see what goes on “behind the scenes”!

Alternatively, you might prefer to record yourself reading from home, and afterwards send the file to Denice Grant.

Please contact Victoria Jones (604-538-9153) or the office, if you are interested.

2020 Peninsula United Church Redevelopment Committee Report
In spite of COVID restrictions the Redevelopment Committee has been busy finalizing the design for the church on the former First United site.

The interior design plans addressing décor issues including the incorporation of the beams from the demolished church as accent pieces have been finalized. A contracted Audio Visual specialist is working with the committee and selected church advisors.

As of December 4, 2020 the finalized version of the revised kitchen design was submitted to White Rock City Hall. The revised version meets the requirements for a fully operational kitchen.

In early December, Chandos, the general contractor, was waiting for confirmation of a couple of outstanding permits.  Work on the site resumed before Christmas.

The projection completion date is mid-2022.   The committee will be receiving monthly updates regarding the ongoing progress and we hope occupancy will be in August of 2022.

Thanks to the Worship Committee there is now a banner on the construction fence indicating that Peninsula United Church will be part of the new facility and invites the community to on line worship.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the Redevelopment Committee,
Fae Chato-Manchuk
