Attention FUPC Parents & Youth!!!

First United will celebrate Youth Recognition Day on Sunday, June 13th during morning worship. We will recognize our Class of 2021 Graduates and our 2021 Confirmation Class members. In order to prepare the special bulletin insert, we need to gather information about all of the achievements and the wonderful activities each of our Youth has been involved in - even in the midst of the pandemic. Black History Moment brought to us by History.com:

"Sojourner Truth"

Sojourner Truth was an African American evangelist, abolitionist, women’s rights activist, and author who was born into slavery before escaping to freedom in 1826. After gaining her freedom, Truth preached about abolitionism and equal rights for all. She became known for a speech with the famous refrain, "Ain't I a Woman?" that she was said to have delivered at a women's convention in Ohio in 1851, although accounts of that speech (and whether Truth ever used that refrain) have since been challenged by historians. Truth continued her crusade throughout her adult life, earning an audience with President Abraham Lincoln and becoming one of the world’s best-known human rights crusaders.

FUPC Welcomes CROSS Missions
This summer, FUPC is partnering with Myers Park Presbyterian Church to serve as a host church for their CROSS Missions initiative. CROSS Missions is Myers Park Presbyterian Church’s unique urban outreach ministry. Over the past 20 years, more than 10,000 people from 270 churches, colleges, and schools in 19 states have served through CROSS Missions.

Their mission is to host and organize youth group mission trips here in Charlotte, NC. These groups come from all over the South East region, from small churches to large churches. They serve at over 30 different agencies in Charlotte giving thousands of hours each summer to partners such as Crisis Assistance Ministry, Charlotte Rescue Mission, Hope Haven, Freedom Schools, Second Harvest, and many more.

During the week of June 6th - June 11th, our church will be hosting a small group of young women from Fountain Inn Presbyterian Church, located in Fountain Inn, SC. We will be providing dinner (pizza) for them on Wednesday, June 9th @ 7:00 p.m. If any of you are interested in assisting with serving the meal or providing the group with a church tour or background history of FUPC, please contact Elder Gail Farmer-Walker on the Christian Nurture/Service Unit.

As a Matthew 25 church, congregational vitality is strengthened as we keep our congregation and Faith community engaged and informed about how God is guiding us to do great things at FUPC.
