Black History Moment brought to us by Elder Gerrie Hill
The church has been at the center of Black History since slavery, the Civil Rights Movement and the present time. The church has been a source of learning about our rich history through Worship, Sunday School, Bible Study, Vacation Bible School, and devotional readings. The church gives us the opportunity to gather as a community of believers to care for each other and those in need.

Join us every Wednesday starting Feb. 24 - Mar 31 for our special Lenten Devotional Study. These studies will be led by our Elders. Please click the below link to secure the devotional. We are inviting everyone to ready this daily during this season of Lent.

Prayer, fasting, and service are an integral part of the practices of Lent. Our Lenten Devotional, "The Way to Shalom", will engage us in the act of prayer. Over the coming days, we will identify opportunities for us as a congregation to serve. So be on the lookout. We are inviting everyone to participate in a 40 day corporate fast, starting Feb 17 at 6:30 pm ending April 1 at 6:30 pm. Considering the complexities of our varied situations, we are keeping the fast simple this year.

We are asking that every member fast for 40 days from his/her favorite indulgence. For example, if you are a Netflix/TV fan, fast from Netflix/TV. Maybe you have a huge sweet-tooth. You can fast from sweets. Every time you are tempted to break your fast, and you will be if you truly choose an indulgence, you will reread your Lenten Devotion for that day and pray.

I pray that everyone will participate in this worthwhile spiritual practice. We will grow spiritually, as a result.

Streamed live every Sunday @ 11 am from FUPC's sanctuary via our webpage- fupcc.org, Facebook page, and Zoom. Every 4th Sunday via First Presbyterian Church's TV ministry, channel 64- WAXN.

Please consider a gift to Ten Cents-a-Meal every first Sunday. To learn more about this program click here.

Celebrate One Great Hour of Sharing
February 17 - April 4, 2021

One Great Hour of Sharing is the largest way Presbyterians come together to share God’s love with our neighbors in need around the world.

Thank you for your gifts to this Special Offering!

Because of you, we are addressing the root causes of hunger in places like the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and others where food security is a serious need.

Because of you, our partners are building infrastructure to address critical water shortages in a Bolivian community.

Because of you, black women and girls are receiving trauma healing and housing assistance in the Brooklyn area.

Because of you, millions of dollars have been granted to congregations, mid councils, and partner organizations as we continue to face the COVID-19 pandemic together.

This is all made possible BECAUSE OF YOU!

Community News
The Biden-Harris Administration just opened a special health insurance enrollment period running through May 15.

LEARN MORE

Every American deserves the peace of mind that comes with affordable quality health care, especially in the midst of a pandemic that has taken the lives of over 480,000, infected millions of others, and left millions more unemployed.
That is exactly why the Biden-Harris Administration has opened HealthCare.gov for a special health insurance enrollment period running through May 15. As we continue to fight for critical, direct relief through the American Rescue Plan, this special enrollment period will ensure health insurance coverage is affordable and accessible for all.

As Democrats, we know the importance of good health care. That’s why President Biden initiated this special enrollment period, and why we’re fighting to get the American Rescue Plan through Congress. The American Rescue Plan takes a multi-pronged approach to the health care crisis by:

  • Increasing federal subsidies to ensure no one pays more than 8.5% of their income for comprehensive health coverage,

  • And ramping up testing, tracing, and our national vaccination program to get shots into as many arms as quickly as possible.

Democrats are working day and night to get this legislation enacted and relief delivered to the American people. In the meantime, take a minute to make sure you and your loved ones have the health care you need: Head to HealthCare.gov to learn more today.

We'll get through this together,

The Democrats

P.S. The special enrollment period for HealthCare.gov is open from now until May 15. If you're already covered, then please forward this email to your family and friends so they can learn about open enrollment today.
