Weekly Announcements
January 2-8, 2019
As we welcome in 2019, we will be saying a grateful farewell to Father Rob Voyle, and his wife Kim.  Rob has served this parish as interim rector in an extraordinary way during an extraordinary time of transition, and we want to provide a tangible expression of our gratitude.

In lieu of a traditional purse-raising, Rob and Kim have suggested a donation to their favorite charity, "Trees for Tigers". If you'd like to contribute, please donate online (click on button below) and select Optional Donation at bottom of the form or by check designated "Father Rob gift" by WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9.

Please join us this Sunday, January 13, for a reception honoring Rob in the Parish Hall following the 9:30am service.

A POUND OF GIFT CARDS!
Our new rector Peter Floyd and his family are in now in Charlotte and will be with us on Sunday, January 27! In lieu of a traditional “kitchen pounding”, we would like to do a “gift card pounding” and present them with a collection of gift cards that will allow them to stock their new home and purchase what their family likes and needs.  The basket of cards will be presented to them on that first Sunday.  Any amount will be appreciated.

Suggested stores include:
·          Walmart/Target
·          Bed Bath & Beyond
·          Harris Teeter/Publix
·          Whole Foods/Fresh Market
·          Lowes/Home Depot
·          Amazon
·          Local restaurants – choose your favorite!

Their new home is in Matthews so Matthews/Arboretum/Southeast areas would be convenient but anywhere is good! Think about places too that are kid friendly. If you would like to participate, please bring your gift card to the church by Monday, January 21.  A collection basket will be located in the Welcome Center or you can give the cards to Margaret Burkhart (704-562-6939) or Rawles Kelly (704-806-7783).
The next Wednesday Night Book Club is on Wednesday, January 16 th at 6:15pm in Room 204/5.  We will be discussing Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.

The Wednesday Night Book Club is open to anyone. It doesn’t matter if you are a newcomer to book clubs, or involved in several others, you are most certainly invited and encouraged to join us. And if you cannot join us this time, we hope you will keep an eye out for our next session!

The 2019 envelopes are here! If you ordered these, they are available for you to pick up in the breezeway!
As we begin the New Year, we prepare to welcome over 100 families each month. Our complete list of items offered in the pantry include laundry detergent, toilet tissue, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, feminine hygiene pads, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shaving cream, disposable razors, diapers, wipes, deodorant and soap. We are most in need of diapers, sizes 3-6! Your kind donations are always appreciated! As God provides for us, we provide for others.
It’s time to dust off your name tags and start wearing them as we head into the new year!  We have many new members and Peter will be arriving in January so wearing your name tags would be a tremendous help for everyone! If you need a new name tag, please sign up in the Welcome Center. They will be made and waiting for you in the new name tag file box the next week.
You are invited to join the Morning Prayer/Bible Study group gathering on Mondays beginning on January 7, 2019.  Morning prayer will be held in the Chapel at 7:00am followed by Bible Study in room 208. Bishop's Ball is a Diocesan event / weekend at which SJE youth are invited to be a part!  During this year's Bishops’ Ball, we will examine the concept of "Living the Way." Taking inspiration from Bishop Curry's "The Way of Love," we will learn to follow in the path of Christ and lead a spiritually fulfilling lifestyle. We will explore this theme with many themed games, worships, workshops and activities spread throughout the weekend. This weekend will end with a semi-formal dance with the bishops, so don’t forget your dancing shoes! Cost is $115 and registration must be received by January 30th!  Click here to register and let Jillianne know you are going!
ROOM IN THE INN LAUNDRY: Each Thursday night between December 6 and March 28, St. John's will host up to 12 homeless guests for the night. Each week, youth wash their laundry. Meet at the preschool entrance at 6:15pm and bring money for dinner out. We will wash their clothes, eat dinner ( Mexican, pizza, etc. ), and return by 9:30pm each week. Contact Jillianne with any questions. This event counts towards service hours!
