Worship & Music Note

We began our Advent journey of waiting this past Sunday by lighting the first candle on the Advent wreath. The liturgical color for Advent is Blue representing hope, expectation, the darkness before birth, and the coming of the King. The chancel area includes blue in the paraments, Advent wreath, and wall wreaths. You will also see blue in the pastor’s stole and outdoor flags.

So, as this new church year begins, we wait in the darkness for the coming of the light of the Christ child.

Giving Opportunities

GIVING TREE

We kicked off our Giving Tree event on Sunday, November 20. Thank you to all who are donating gifts. We still have a number of children’s tags available; Girl ages 2, 7 and 8 and Boy ages 6-12 months, 9 and 10 years old. Once those tags have been taken, there will be an opportunity for us to add some tags for Boys and Girls aged 8-10.

Giving Tree gifts should be left under the tree, unwrapped with the gender/age tag or note attached by Sunday, December 14.

KENNEDY KIDS

We are also collecting financial donations for Kennedy Kids and Oasis. You can donate cash, or by check or Simply Giving by adding a note that the funds are to be designed to Oasis or Kennedy Kids. Checks should be made out to St. Luke’s. Donations will be accepted through Christmas. St. Luke’s will purchase Target, Walmart, Holiday Gas, and Speedway gift cards through RaiseRight for the kids in need. We will add an ornament to the Giving Tree for each donation that is made.

COAT DRIVE

We are collecting new or gently used (clean) coats and outer wear for all ages. Casual clothing is also accepted. Hang or leave your items on the mobile coat rack in the Narthex. Items will be collected up to December 14

.

RAISERIGHT GIFT CARDS

Bev Brosam will be in the Narthex between services on December 7 and 14 selling RaiseRight gift cards which you can purchase to give to a loved one or to gift yourself. A percentage of each card purchased goes to St. Luke’s Missions. We have a limited stock of cards from 24 vendors including Amazon, Dick’s, Dunkin’ Donuts, Holiday, Home Depot, Menards, IKEA, Scheels, Target, Walgreens, Walmart and Visa. There are $10 cards available for stocking stuffers. Over 700 vendors participate in the program (see www.RaiseRight.com and click on “Browse All Brands”). Bev Brosam will be placing an order with RaiseRight on Sunday, December 7. Contact her before that afternoon, and she can order specific cards for you.

Looking for a great volunteer opportunity? Ushers needed now!

Not long ago Diane LaFontaine did a wonderful job of sharing the good news about St. Luke’s

great community. I would like to share just one of the many volunteer opportunities here

at St. Luke’s.

I am talking about an opportunity to help be the face of St. Luke’s on Sunday mornings.

Be an Usher!! Our teams are made up of both men and women who enjoy the ability to

greet our members and visitors Sunday mornings. Teams support services four months a

year either at 8:30 or 10:00. For those of you that attend our services, you know Ushers

greet and hand out the bulletins, light candles and provide guidance for communion.

Currently we are in particular need for ushers at our 10:00 services. Please consider

this critical volunteer opportunity!

For more information please contact Kevin Schulz at 952-888-2063 or via email at

kcschulz@comcast.net

Congrats to Colin Quinn!

Congratulations to Colin Quinn and his baseball team for being their league's 2025 World Series Champions!

With your participation, St. Luke’s Sanctuary will be beautifully adorned during the Christmas season. You can still make a donation to Loaves & Fishes in honor of a loved one.

Missions Fundraiser

Thanksgiving and Christmas cards are now available for purchase in the Narthex. Birthday, Sympathy and other cards are also available; new designs are added each month. Proceeds will go to fund Missions projects.

A $4.00 donation per card is suggested. There are payment envelopes available at the carousel. Payment can be made by cash, check or through Simply Giving, found at the bottom of each web page, "Give", please indicate it is for Missions.

This is a Missions ministry, therefore, if you need a card but cannot afford one, please take a card. Just fill out the payment envelope as to the number of cards taken, so that we can replenish our stock. No names are required.

Custom cards are available (e.g. Graduation in school colors, special event, etc.). Contact bevyb2@hotmail.com or 952-715-0158 to discuss your needs.

Security Update at St. Luke’s

Recently a small task force met with a Homeland Security/

Bloomington police officer to evaluate church security and

make recommendations. The good news, we are doing a

fine job. However, there were a few recommendations.

The following recommendation will be implemented this month.

The focus is on security for our Sunday morning worship.

During both services all external doors will be locked. Additional

doors may be locked between services as we continue to assess

our security needs. Access to the church Sunday mornings will

always be available through the Main Entrance (Door C).

The usher team will be responsible to open and close doors

at recommended times.

If you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact
