ADVENT AT STJE
THE ADULT FORUM : CELTIC CHRISTIANITY
In the Adult Forum in Advent we will take a break from our regular series to offer two classes on December 8 and 15 . During our time together we will learn about Celtic Christianity and the origins of Christianity in the British Isles with an eye to possibly offering pilgrimage to people who are interested in visiting that region in the Summer of 2021. The Adult Forum takes place at 10:15 in the Parish Hall. All are Welcome!
THE 5:00 PM SERVICE TAKES A NEW DIRECTION
During the Season of Advent the 5:00 p.m. service will take a new direction following the Book of Common Prayer’s “Order for Evening”. This service highlights Advent’s theme of moving from darkness to light and will give the congregation an opportunity to light votive candles during the service. The Eucharist of the service will follow the Church of England’s Book of Common Worship, which is widely used in that country. All are welcome.
AN ADVENT DAY OF SILENCE
Please mark your calendars for Saturday, December 14th from 1:00 - 3:30pm in the side chapel of the Nave for an Advent Day of Silence. This event is free and open to the public, no registration needed. The day will begin with a brief welcome and introduction followed by four 30 minute periods of: listening to an Advent reading, a 20 minute quiet sit, a meditative walk around the nave (for those who wish to join), then rejoining at the side chapel for the next reading. During our time together, participants may choose to go to Tilson Hall where the Labyrinth will be available to walk. This day is intended to be a resource for people to use as they wish, to come when they can, use as they need, leave when they have been fully fed. For questions, please contact Brad Smith+.

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PAGEANT
December 22, 2019 at 10:30am

We cordially invite the entire parish to our Christmas Pageant! As we prepare for this great show, we invite the children of the parish to join us as part of the cast. There will be “room in the inn” for everyone to play a part! Here is what you need to know if you want to join in the show:

3-and 4-year-old children/Pre-Kindergarten students will be the Sheep. For the costume, we suggest making a white t-shirt covered with cotton balls, and a headband with sheep ears attached.

Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade students will be the Angels. For the costume, students should wear an oversized long-sleeve white shirt. (Wearing a white men’s dress shirt has been popular in the past.) We have angel wings and halos to pin onto the shirt.

Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade students will be cast as Named Characters. We will assign these roles during Sunday School on Sunday, December 8. (If your child is interested in participating but cannot be here on that day, please contact Matt Williams to sign up for a role.

Parents can sign up to help on the morning of the show. We can always use an extra hand or two helping the children put on costumes and keeping everyone together while we wait to take the stage. If you can help, please let Matt Williams know.

If you have any questions about the Children’s Christmas Pageant, just contact Matt Williams. His contact information is available in Realm.

GALILEE MINISTRIES TEAMS UP WITH MERRY OAKS
This year Galilee Ministries is teaming up with Merry Oaks Elementary School to offer a fun bi-lingual learning experience at Galilee Center on November 14, 21; December 5, 12; January 9, 16, 23, 30; and February 6 . Merry Oaks' student body is 70% native Spanish speakers. On Thursday evenings, we will share a simple dinner at 6pm, followed by language instruction (Spanish and English) and childcare.  At the end of the evening the Spanish learners and the English learners will have time to mingle over dessert and practice their new language skills on each other. We need lots of volunteers, especially with childcare and dinner. There will be a paid childcare worker, but she will need lots of help. Dinner will be purchased, just needs to be served. Please call Galilee Ministries at 704-900-5210 for more information. You can sign up for just one night or for multiple nights.
MEN OF ST. JOHN'S BIBLE STUDY Come join the Men of St John's as we discuss how to overcome "Guilty Dad" syndrome. The pressures of raising a family in today's environment are enormous. School, work, sports, family, housework, all demand our time and attention. Are these issues addressed in the Bible? What does the Bible know about life in 2019? Come to room 201 during the educational hour on Sundays and find out. This is a lively discussion on how as men we are called to set the standard for our families, our Church, and much more. Hope to see you on Sunday morning.
LET US PRAY
The Intercessory Prayer Team would love to pray for you! You can fill out a prayer card in the church pews and drop it in one of prayer boxes found at each nave entrance. All requests are confidential.

We meet at 6:15pm each week (at the preschool entrance) and head to the Monroe Road Laundromat to wash clothes. We always grab a bite to eat for dinner before heading back to church around 9:30pm.  Don't forget money for dinner and tip!
All 6th - 12th grade students are invited to join us each week or just come for one or two!  This time allows for a fun time of fellowship and service and is also great if youth need service hours for school.
