GLCO Presents Lux Aeterna and Mozart
April 25th
Lux Aeterna (Eternal Light) is a renowned choral work by American composer Morten Lauridsen, written in 1997 and premiered at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Performed and admired worldwide, the music and text focus on light as a symbol of hope, peace and transcendence. Experience its beauty in the sacred space of the St. Francis Xavier Church of Petoskey with the depth and richness of its cathedral acoustics.
Featuring the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra Chorus led by Andre Strydom.
Mozart’s Symphony No. 25 in G minor is a masterpiece, showcasing Mozart’s unique blend of melodic elegance, harmonic innovation, and emotional depth. This work was a major influence on later composers, including Beethoven and Brahms. As one of Mozart’s most popular symphonies, the opening bars are among the most recognizable in classical music, and its enduring popularity is a testament to its timeless appeal.
In response to the recent ice storm affecting our communities in northern Michigan, the concert will be FREE of CHARGE. No ticket needed. All are welcome. Doors will open at 6:30pm. Concert at 7:00pm.

Pet of The Week- Reggie!
Howdy there! My name is Reggie and I'm a two year old male German Shepherd.
I came to Charlevoix Area Humane Society as a transfer and I'm looking for my new furever home.
I'm a sweet guy, I love playing with squeaky toys and zooming around the yard. Right now I am heartworm positive so I've been enjoying more relaxing activities, like sniffy walks and food puzzles. I would do well in a home where I can be the center of your world.
I don't like other dogs and am a bit too strong for children.
If you're looking for a best friend whose always ready for an adventure I'm your guy!

Camp Daggett Ice Storm Update
Dear Camp Daggett Community,
We wanted to take a moment to update you on how Camp Daggett fared during the recent ice storm and where things stand now. The storm rolled in on Saturday, March 29, bringing heavy ice and wind that caused significant damage across northern Michigan. Like many, Camp Daggett lost power and internet access. Thankfully, our generators at the Lodge and Adventure Center kicked in just as they should, keeping critical systems running. Even so, we’re still without internet on campus, which continues to create challenges for communication, phones, and administration.
Initial assessments showed extensive tree damage across the property. Downed limbs and trees blocked access roads, damaged cabins, and compromised some of our program elements. Despite the conditions, our staff quickly mobilized to assess damage, begin cleanup efforts, and coordinate with our insurance partners. With limited connectivity, staff have been working both on-site and remotely to keep operations going and logistics on track.
Since then, we’ve made steady progress. We’ve begun repairs on buildings, are working with contractors to address damage to roofs and windows, and have tree crews preparing to remove hazardous limbs. Our Facilities team is hard at work - and while there’s still a long road ahead, we’re confident we’ll be ready for the summer season.
To support that effort, we’re hosting a Community Campus Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May 10 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with lunch provided immediately afterward. We’d love to welcome volunteers to lend a hand! If you’re able to help get camp ready for the summer season, please sign up here.

C3F Mini Grants can help with smaller needs and can be applied for at any time of the year!
With a recent Mini Grant, we helped Last Dance Rescue Ranch to create a new website. This organization is an animal sanctuary, focusing on elderly animals or those with special needs. They provide end-of-life care for domestic animals and livestock. As you might expect, costs are high for medications, feed, and comfort care, but the new website is helping already by providing a professional space where people can easily learn more about how to donate, volunteer, or support this work.
We are proud to support this kind of capacity building work, which strengthens organizations and helps them meet the needs outlined in their missions. Check out their new site to learn more, and to see the faces of some of these darling souls in their care.

Free Accessibility Assessment
Visit Charlevoix was recently awarded a grant from the State of Michigan through MEDC and Pure Michigan to conduct an accessibility assessment of our area’s lodging properties, public parks and spaces, businesses, attractions, and more. As part of this effort, we’ve partnered with Sage Inclusion, a leader in travel accessibility, to bring this project to life—and we’d love to include your location should it qualify as a place open to the public.
The Sage Inclusion team will be in Charlevoix from April 22 to May 2, and we’re offering you the opportunity to receive a free accessibility assessment of your property. You’ll receive a customized report covering both your physical space and website, along with recommendations—and potentially even certification.
What’s Included:
The assessment will cover:
· Mobility (wheelchairs, mobility scooters, slow walkers)
· Vision (blind and low vision)
· Hearing (deaf and hard of hearing)
· Cognitive (including sensory needs)
· Allergies (including food allergies)
This initiative is part of a larger statewide effort supported by Pure Michigan, Travel Michigan, and MEDC—and we’re thrilled to bring it to Charlevoix.
Interested?
It’s completely free. Just email amanda@visitcharlevoix.com to get more info.

EMMET AND CHARLEVOIX COUNTIES – Emergency mini grants ranging from $500 to $1,500 are available to help small businesses respond to urgent needs resulting from the March 28, 2025 ice storm that led to an emergency declaration by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
With leadership and coordination help led by the Petoskey Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation and the Charlevoix County Community Foundation, a group of organizations has been formed to partner on the Emergency Mini Grants program, including the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Charlevoix Area Chamber of Commerce, the Northern Lakes Economic Alliance and Venture North Funding and Development, a nonprofit that makes capital and consultation available to help small businesses grow in northwest Michigan.
“We are grateful for the response of many to this catastrophic storm,” said David Jones, Executive Director of the Petoskey Harbor Springs Community Foundation. “We also know that many small businesses have unmet urgent needs. The purpose of this Emergency Mini Grant program is to quickly provide grants ranging from $500 to $1,500 to help as many small businesses as possible resolve urgent needs and sustain operations.”

Once we receive approval, the grant amount will be transferred to the bank of the small business applicant. We will award mini grants until the funds donated for this purpose have been exhausted.”

Stay Safe Outside: An Update on Little Traverse Conservancy Trails
With the destructive ice storm northern Michigan experienced this last week, LTC has significant trail cleanup to do. As you can imagine, trails are in rough shape. We are assuming nearly all our trails have downed trees blocking them. This does not mean our trails are closed, but we do ask that you use them at your own risk. Even though the worst of it has passed, the storm has brought dangerous conditions. Branches and trees could fall at any moment, so please be careful if you choose to head out on LTC properties.
Our plan going forward is to clear properties daily over the next few weeks, starting with our most popular properties in each county. Our staff and volunteers will be working as quickly and efficiently as possible so you can continue to enjoy the beauty of northern Michigan. If you see a crew on the trail, please avoid them for your safety. Once a trail system has been cleared, we will post it on our social media stories and our website (www.landtrust.org), so check back daily for updates.
If you would like to join our team of volunteers, please reach out to Volunteer Coordinator Cacia Lesh at cacia@landtrust.org or call our office at 231.347.0991. Please do not call our office to inform us about downed trees and branches. We appreciate you looking out for us, but this type of phone call will be overwhelming at this time.
We’re incredibly proud of the resilience of our communities and so grateful for the outpouring of support we’ve seen in the wake of the storm. Thank you for your patience and care as we work to restore safe access to these cherished trails. We hope you’re staying safe, staying warm, and finding moments of peace in nature wherever you can.
