Trailblazing Women of Country
March 27th
Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton revolutionized country music and paved the way for future generations of female artists. With their chart-topping hits and record-breaking sales, these icons infused contemporary womanhood into the fabric of country music, leading to unprecedented commercial success and earning each of them a place in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
"Trailblazing Women of Country" will entertain and inspire audiences during this pivotal moment in our nation's history. The performance will feature soloists, including GRAMMY® nominee Rissi Palmer and Nashville-based singer Kristina Train, supported by an all-female band consisting of five members.
Cline, Lynn, and Parton harnessed country music’s rich storytelling tradition to express their uniquely empowered— and unmistakably female—perspective on the challenges faced by women of their time. Their shared legacy of musical excellence, earthy glamour, and unapologetic authenticity continues to resonate with listeners of all ages and backgrounds in the 21st century.
Patsy’s assured contralto affirms that a woman can feel heartbroken and yet be sure of herself at the same time, as demonstrated in songs like “Crazy” and “Walkin’ After Midnight.” Loretta Lynn’s music celebrates autonomy gained through contraception in “The Pill” and self-respect in “Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind).” Dolly Parton illustrates that a woman can climb the career ladder with songs like “9-to-5” while never losing sight of her roots in “Coat of Many Colors.”
Through their singular voices and artistry, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton defied restrictive gender norms, proving that women can embody beauty and strength, vulnerability and power.

Pet of The Week- Stanley!
Stanley is a 9 month old Pointer/Pit mix who came to us due to his owner no longer being able to care for him. Stanley is a bit of a wild child, but we love that about him!
Stanley is very excited when meeting new people and does jump on occasion, but once he settles down he is happy to play the part of lap dog and will do anything he can to be close to you. He is learning his leash manners and is very eager to please.
Stanley is very food motivated and that will definitely be a key to training with him, he has "sit" mastered wonderfully so far. He seems to be mostly house trained, but does best if he can be let out every few hours.
He is very curious of the other dogs and we don't think he would do well with cats.
This handsome guy is ready for a forever home with steady guidance and a loving human.

Munson Highlights the Need to Protect Medicaid Funding to Safeguard Northern Michigan Patients, Communities
As federal lawmakers consider drastic cuts to Medicaid, Munson Healthcare is calling for immediate action to protect this essential program, which provides critical healthcare services to more than 2.6 million Michigan residents, including 75,000 of our most vulnerable Northern Michigan residents.
Medicaid has saved lives across every stage of life, kept hospitals open, and strengthened the overall well-being of individuals and families in our community. Any funding reductions would have devastating consequences for patients, providers, and local communities. “Medicaid is a cornerstone of America’s healthcare system and plays a vital role in ensuring access to long-term care, maternity care, and mental health services,” said Ed Ness, President and CEO of Munson Healthcare. “In addition to impacting thousands of our patients across Northern Michigan who are already struggling, without adequate funding healthcare facilities like ours will face immense challenges in maintaining operations and serving our communities.”
Additionally, almost half of births (46.2 percent) at a Munson Healthcare facility last year were covered by Medicaid. Medicaid coverage not only improves health outcomes but also supports economic stability by helping residents who are enrolled maintain or find employment and reduce medical debt. One of Michigan’s Medicaid programs, the expansion known as the Healthy Michigan Plan, has been a resounding success, lowering the state’s uninsured rate and contributing to financial security for families.
Proposed federal cuts to Medicaid could create a $1.73 billion shortfall in the state budget for Michigan. Such cuts would jeopardize access to healthcare for millions across the state, including 970,000 children who rely on Medicaid for essential care, and 75,000 residents in Northern Michigan.
As Medicaid continues to be a lifeline for Michigan residents, Munson Healthcare urges residents to call on their state and federal lawmakers to reject any funding cuts that would destabilize healthcare access and affordability.
“Protecting Medicaid is vital to ensuring that all our neighbors across Northern Michigan can receive the care they need while preserving jobs and sustaining our local economy & communities,” added Ness.

Charlevoix Rotary-Rotary Youth Exchange
When? Late August – late November, 2025 (flexible)
Where? Family home within the Charlevoix school district with a CMHS student(s) Open your home to a high school senior from Argentina for ~3 months while each of you gets to learn about the other’s culture, and your family has the opportunity to build a special relationship with a vetted, well-supported young man curious about our country, his future, and high school in America.
Why? Open your home to a high school senior from Argentina for ~3 months while each of you gets to learn about the other’s culture, and your family has the opportunity to build a special relationship with a vetted, well-supported young man curious about our country, his future, and high school in America.
Why, Part 2: Help build international peace through cultural exchange; this has been the stated goal of Rotary International’s Youth Exchange program since it began in 1929.
Who? The Rotary Club of Charlevoix will host one student for the 2025-2026 school year across three host families. The student is a young man from Argentina. He is well traveled, avid downhill skier with a penchant for sprots, the gym, and “tech.” He is the oldest of 3 siblings (two sisters) and is described by his family as independent, mature, responsible, kind, empathetic and well-liked among his peers. A self described non-morning person who has nevertheless successfully managed to get up and get going on time, this exchange student currently attends a German school in Argentina where he has studied the German language for 8 years and English for 9 (including ongoing private study). His English speaking is “excellent” and his school “strongly recommends” him (the highest possible level of recommendation) as a candidate for Rotary International Youth Exchange.
Additional Details for your Consideration as 1 of 3 Potential Host Families:
• The Rotary Club of Charlevoix has a committee of 6 people focused on serving the needs of this exchange student and the host families. This includes a Rotary Youth Exchange Counselor, whose job it is to advocate on behalf of and regularly mentor the exchange student.
• The Rotary District (District 6290) in which Charlevoix sits has Youth Exchange committees of dedicated Rotarians with years if not decades of experience; they exist to support the local club committees like ours and exchange students.
• Rotary of Charlevoix is seeking a Charlevoix Middle High School family to host this young man from Argentina for the first 1/3 of his stay in Charlevoix. Please reach out to Dr. Rachel Sytsma-Reed, Charlevoix Rotary’s Youth Exchange Officer, at rachel@greatlakescfa.org or 616-460-9392 to learn more. You may also learn more and inquire at the Rotary District 6290 website: https://www.ridistrict6290.org/sitepage/rotary-youth-exchange . Thank you for considering hosting a Rotary International Youth Exchange student!

The event, hosted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF) at local, district and national levels, honors the best entries in each tier. The AAF’s mission with this competition, according to its website, is “to recognize and award the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising.” Over 25,000 entries are submitted every year nationwide for the initial judging.
At this year’s ceremony, Brick House Interactive, a small, family-owned interactive media production company with offices in Northwestern Michigan and the Grand Rapids area, won two Gold ADDY Awards and Best of Show for its “FANUC America Happy Holidays 2024” submission.
