BookTalkers: James by Percival Everett'

November 18th

Let's talk books!

The enslaved Jim still hides out on Jackson Island when he overhears news that he's to be sold and separated from his family, and Huck Finn still encounters him while running away from an abusive father and faking his own death. However, novelist Percival Everett's re-envisioning of Mark Twain's classic story presents Jim in a whole new light.

(Extra credit if you re-read Huckleberry Finn as well as this inspired re-telling!).

Pet of The Week-King!

Meet King, a handsome and energetic guy ready to find his furever home!

King came to us as a transfer from another shelter. He really loves to play, so a big yard would be perfect for him. King does well with cats but is a bit cautious around other dogs. He’d thrive in a home with older kids (12+), who can match his energy.

If King sounds like the perfect fit, fill out an adoption application online or at the shelter today!

THE PETOSKEY SALVATION ARMY ANGEL TREE NEEDS GIFTS FOR LOCAL CHILDREN

Angel Tree gifts are often the only Christmas presents that the applicants children receive. Parents must often make difficult decisions on whether they should put food on the table, keep the lights on, heat their home, have a roof over head, have adequate medical care or have presents for their children on Christmas morning.

The Salvation Army not only assists with gifts, but also provides food vouchers to Oleson’s Food Stores so families can enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas meals together. Considering the high rate of inflation, Holiday Assistance will be even more in demand and more critical to the families served this year.
