Pet of The Week-Piper!
This beauty is Piper!
Piper came to us as a transfer from another shelter. We are still learning about her but from what we can tell she seems very smart and eager to please. She does well with cats and people, but she’s a little apprehensive of other dogs at first.
She tends to play pretty rough and would need a high energy friend and family. We are unsure how she would be with kids but we think she would likely do well, especially with older kids.

THE PETOSKEY SALVATION ARMY ANGEL TREE NEEDS GIFTS FOR LOCAL CHILDREN
Angel Tree gifts are often the only Christmas presents that the applicants children receive. Parents must often make difficult decisions on whether they should put food on the table, keep the lights on, heat their home, have a roof over head, have adequate medical care or have presents for their children on Christmas morning.
The Salvation Army not only assists with gifts, but also provides food vouchers to Oleson’s Food Stores so families can enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas meals together. Considering the high rate of inflation, Holiday Assistance will be even more in demand and more critical to the families served this year.

“Brovember” Campaign Seeks Male Mentors for Local Boys
This November Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Michigan (Bigs) is shining a spotlight on a critical need in our community—38 boys are eagerly waiting for a mentor to step into their lives. Through our “Brovember” campaign, we are calling upon adult men to raise their hands and join us in transforming lives through the power of mentorship. Our goal is to recruit 38 men who are ready to provide the life-changing gift of guidance and support.
“The impact you will make on a child is life-changing,” says Big Brother Jessie Carrigan. “Whether you’re being a good role model, a listening ear, or providing simple guidance, your involvement will profoundly change their path.”

Applications Being Accepted for New Charlevoix County
Materials Management Planning Committee
Charlevoix County is accepting applications for a new Materials Management Planning Committee (MMPC). The committee will help guide the development of a new Materials Management Plan that the County will be developing with assistance from Networks Northwest.
At the beginning of 2024, the State of Michigan called for an update to County Materials Management Plans, formerly known as Solid Waste Plans. Current Solid Waste Plans focus on disposal capacities, while the updated Materials Management Plans will focus on sustainable materials management, such as recycling and composting, instead of primarily disposal.
The new MMPC will be composed of eleven members who are involved with materials management or elected officials in Charlevoix County. MMPC meetings will be open to the public, follow the Open Meetings Act, and may be recorded for note keeping and review. The Charlevoix County Board of Commissioners will have approval of the committee membership and the Materials Management Plan.
Anyone interested in serving on the MMPC is encouraged to submit an application which can be found at bit.ly/ChxMMPC Further information on Materials Management Plans can be found at bit.ly/MMPguide.

GREAT LAKES ENERGY PEOPLE FUND PROVIDES COPIER FOR NEW COMMUNITY CENTER
The Salvation Army of Petoskey’s programs and services are running smoothly thanks to the new efficient, dependable copier/printer/scanner that was provided by Great Lakes Energy’s People Fund grant award of $5,000.
The new machine is the central unit used by staff for all programs, services, reporting, media and more. Without the ability to scan, print and submit required documentation, The Salvation Army would not be able to operate or provide many desperately needed programs and services for neighbors in Emmet, Charlevoix and Antrim Counties.
