As we begin planning for 2020, our Board of Directors is beginning the nominating process for electing incoming Directors. If you are interested in serving on our Board or know someone that you feel would be a guiding force for our organization, please send and email to hagen@charlevoix.org with the nominee name and why the nominee is interested in serving as a director. Our Board of Directors nominating committee is being selected this month and will then review all received nominations to narrow down to the official ballot. The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra is honored to welcome distinguished composer, David Lockington to the podium conducting the world premiere The Violet Viola Concerto at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts. Inspired by the birth of his granddaughter, Violet, featuring GLCO Music Director Libor Ondras, viola soloist. This commission was made possible by Dr. Robert and Alice Pattengale. "Overture from Il Signor Bruschino" by Rossini and "Variaciones Concertantes" complete the program.

NCMC Ribbon-Cutting for Solar Panel Installation
September 24

The North Central Michigan College Foundation and the Leadership Little Traverse (LLT) Class of 2019 will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the installation of a solar panel array on North Central’s campus. The ribbon-cutting will take place at 4 p.m. on September 24, 2019, adjacent to the college library. A reception will follow in the library lobby.

A Heart Healthy Living Group Community Presentation Series

Jason Ricci, MD, will present information on the "Structural Heart", an umbrella term that encompasses the full scope of conditions caused by defects or abnormalities in the heart's valves, walls, and/or muscles. Presentation takes place at the John and Marnie Demmer Wellness Pavilion & Dialysis Center Reading and Relaxation room on the 2nd floor. Protect Your Business from Embezzlement and Cybercrime

Three speakers will help educate businesses on how to minimize your exposure. Matt Lierstein of Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, started his career as a Road Patrol Deputy where part of duties would include investigation of Embezzlement Cyber Crime. He is now the Detective Sergeant and will discuss cases he has invested involving embezzlement and cyber-crime.                 

This is being hosted by the Petoskey Chamber and Top of the Mitt SCORE. The seminar takes place at the Genesis Center 1124 Northmen Dr, Petoskey. All area businesses are invited to attend. The Dorothy Gerber Strings Program joins the Great Lakes Center for the Arts & Announces Teacher Expansion
As it embarks on its 20 th year, the Dorothy Gerber Strings Program is proud to announce that it is joining the Great Lakes Center for the Arts as a core educational program of the Center.

Through the generous support of the Cummings family, the family and the Center are also delighted to announce DGSP’s expansion to three full-time strings teachers. Joining Music Director, Dr. David Reimer are Assistant Director, Dr. Katherine Okesson, and Instructor, Mr. Connor Dorsey.

Enrollment for the School Strings Classes is underway for the 2019 | 2020 academic year. Leadership Program Looking for Community Project Ideas - Deadline Extended
Leadership Charlevoix County (LCC) is now accepting proposals for its annual Community Service Project from local nonprofit organizations. The program has started its ninth year as a comprehensive training experience for community members seeking to play a more active role in leadership and their communities. The Community Service Project is an integral part of the hands-on experience of LCC participants. 
Each year, the class decides on a Community Service Project, which will benefit an area of Charlevoix County. The project involves all members of the leadership class and focuses on team building, project management, and leadership skills. The proposals will be reviewed by the LCC Executive Board of Directors and then distributed to the Class of 2019-2020 as received. Proposals will be accepted until a project is chosen in late November.

North Central Running Club Announces Fall 2019 Schedule
The club’s first season features four events, two of which are intercollegiate races. The Kirtland Firebird Invitational on September 27 will be the first intercollegiate, competitive athletic event in North Central’s 61-year history. The full schedule is as follows.

Coached by Professor Rod Anderson, North Central’s co-ed running club includes 22 active student members. Races are open to all members. The club’s purpose is to provide both competitive and non-competitive running opportunities. Runners train together as a team, with several scheduled training sessions available throughout the week.

Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital Welcomes New Obstetrician/Gynecologist
Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital is delighted to welcome its newest medical staff member, Rachel C. Mason, MD, to its Women’s Health team.

Dr. Mason is a graduate of Xavier College and Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine. She completed her OB/GYN residency program at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado, where her primary focus was minimally invasive surgery with extensive training in laparoscopic surgery.

A native of Dearborn, Michigan, Dr. Mason vacationed in the Charlevoix area as a child, and fell in love with the area and people. As a medical student, she was excited to learn that she would be doing clinical rotations at Charlevoix Hospital, an experience that ultimately drew her back to the hospital to begin her career in medicine. Dr. Mason is thrilled to be joining the community, having already purchased a home in Charlevoix and is beginning to experience all that beautiful northern Michigan has to offer. She is excited about putting her skills to work to improve the health of the area’s women, and is currently accepting new patients at Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Women’s Health, located at 14651 W. Generations Exhibit
Local individuals, historical organizations and chambers from Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet & Otsego counties are sharing the fascinating stories of their towns & villages, both past and present.  Generations is a chance to highlight the importance of northern Michigan’s history through a collection of photos and text from twenty local communities to be shared with Raven Hill visitors. Exhibit hours are Sep 1, 2019 to Oct 12, 2019, Saturdays, Noon – 4pm and Sundays, 2pm – 4pm. Generations is also open at other times by appointment.

McLaren Northern Michigan Welcomes New Infectious Diseases Physician
McLaren Northern Michigan is pleased to welcome Quentin Doperalski, DO, to the Infectious Diseases service. 
Dr. Doperalski received his medical degree from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Genesys Regional Medical Center and Infectious Diseases fellowship at the University of California San Francisco – Fresno. After his three year residency in Grand Blanc, Dr. Doperalski knew he wanted to practice medicine in Michigan.

With a special interest in treating and caring for patients with endemic mycoses, HIV, Hepatitis C, as well as travel medicine, Dr. Doperalski will be a great addition to the expert care that is already provided.
