Register to attend “Expressly for Entrepreneurs,” a special, 2-hour workshop on June 11. Learn your entrepreneurial strengths and weaknesses and turn your business ideas into reality.

This workshop will discuss the results of the Entrepreneur Index Personal Assessment, taken online prior to the workshop (a $35 value that is free to workshop participants). Results will be discussed with specially trained SCORE mentors during the workshop, which is limited to 25 registrants.

Summer Lecture Series: Around-The-World Sailor

Mr. Rand will be reprising his successful fall presentation about his 271-day non-stop sail around the world aboard the Westsail 32, “Mighty Sparrow.”  The journey tested every limit both mental and physical, from fierce winds to demoralizing calms, and everything in between. In the end it was perseverance and a bit of luck that would see this small boat through some of the world’s most dangerous seas.

A Week at the Lake - 2019 Local Heroes Award
Pat O'Brien & Associates of Charlevoix and Boyne have something new and exciting to announce! They have created "A Week at the Lake" - Local Heroes Award. This award was created to recognize the unsung heroes of service and contribution in our community! The winner of this award will receive a free week's vacation on Lake Charlevoix featuring a beautiful Lake Charlevoix home with up to 10 family and friends, use of a hi performance Tritoon boat and all the fixings for a final night barbecue jamboree.

Senior Project FRESH is back! This is a program that makes fresh fruits and vegetable available for income-eligible seniors. It also benefits the local farmers’ markets too! Coupons will be distributed on a first come - first served basis, NO APPOINTMENTS. If you have any questions, please contact the Charlevoix County COA at 231-237-0103.

Wellness Wednesday
Every Wednesday from 8am-11am, Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital hosts "Wellness Wednesday" health screenings at the hospital’s Wellness Workshop, 411 Bridge Street in Charlevoix. 

Health screens include: Total Cholesterol, HDL, TC/HDL Ratio, Glucose Level, Body Mass Index Score, Muscle and Fat Percentages, and a Blood Pressure Reading. Cost for the service is $15 with no appointment necessary. Participants will receive all test results at the time of the screening and a “Know Your Numbers” log to track progress. A Registered Nurse will adapt health consultation and educational materials to individual results.  For further information, contact the office of Community Health Education at the Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital Wellness Workshop at 231-437-3482. 

Calling All Paddlers for Kayak for a Cause on Walloon Lake
Camp Daggett is seeking kayakers to participate in the 11 th annual Kayak for a Cause on Walloon Lake fundraiser, July 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and July 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Participants can choose the one-day option to paddle on Saturday or Sunday, or accept the challenge of the entire 30-mile tour of the shoreline of Walloon Lake.

Food and snacks will be provided as well as a team T-shirt on both days and all paddlers are invited to attend the “We Did It Celebration” Sunday afternoon.
 
The base cost to participate is $50 per kayaker for either the one-day or two-day option. Participants are encouraged to raise more than that from friends and family. To support a kayaker, go to CLICK HERE.

Camp Daggett Offers Canoeing Adventure Trip
Camp Daggett is offering a true canoeing adventure for youth, ages 13-15, on the Platte, Betsie and Crystal Rivers, July 21 -27.
 
On this trip, campers will explore some of the most scenic meandering waterways that Michigan has to offer. After setting up base camp in the beautiful Sleeping Bear Dunes State Park, campers will head out for daily adventures on the Platte, Betsie and Crystal Rivers, build their paddling skills as they attempt varying levels of swift water and technical river ways. Expect four days and three nights of exploring the wilderness, spotting wildlife, relaxing on sand bars and some of the best beaches in all of Michigan.
 
This trip will be led by a nationally-certified wilderness first responder with life guard certification. The lead staff will be accompanied by a second adult with current first aid and CPR training. Both staff members have extensive experience leading groups in the backcountry. For more information click HERE !

Pool Renewal Ribbon cutting
At an Open House on Sunday, May 19, 2019, Charlevoix Area Community Pool Board Members thanked the community for contributing toward the 1.8 million dollar Pool Renewal Project. A ribbon cutting took place with Board President, Naomi Singer and Vice President, Mike Dow making the celebratory cut with additional Board and Staff Members by their side. Mark Buday of Buday + Kruzel Architects and Jim Lewis of Hallmark Construction were also present, representing their involvement in creating the new locker room addition, multipurpose room and renovated lobby. www.charlevoixpool.org
