Our 2020 Candidate Forum went Virtual!

With the primary elections approaching August 4 th , our Charlevoix Area and Petoskey Regional Chambers of Commerce have hosted virtual candidate forums for a chance for community members to be introduced to and informed by our area candidates. This video playlist features the candidates running for the 105 th District seat in the House of Representatives for the State of Michigan. The playlist begins with introduction videos by the candidates, then concludes with the virtual forum recording. We hope you find this forum informative and insightful, and encourage you to get out and vote on August 4 th .

Additional forums were hosted for Michigan’s 1 st Congressional District and the 107 th District for the State House of Representatives; those will be posted soon in conjunction with the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce.

We are excited to announce the inaugural 3 Club Tournament Sunday, July 26 at the Muni! This will be a community-centered golf event that everyone can have fun at. Charlevoix Elks Blood Drive

Join the Charlevoix Elks for a community blood drive. All healthy donors are encouraged to attend. Appointments are encouraged and walk-ins welcome. Running Effective Virtual Huddles

NCMC Corporate and Community Education  and Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center are partnering to bring you this online session:  Running Effective Virtual Huddles.  Learn how to run more effective Virtual Huddles in this one-hour session. Walk away with tips and tricks that you can apply immediately to all of your remote meetings. Topics: Prepare for an effective and professional meeting, build an agenda to engage staff, and accomplish the meeting goal, use video conference tools to improve engagement and communication.  Senior Business Advisor Karen Goike (MMTC) will lead this training.  Wednesday, August 5 th  • 9:00 a.m. Register by August 3rd to save your virtual seat for $25 and receive a $25 credit toward a future MMTC or NCMC training. Diane Herder Joins Charlevoix Pool Board
The Board of Directors of the Charlevoix Area Community Pool is proud to welcome Diane Herder, a retired attorney, to the board of directors. While Herder has lived in Charlevoix year-round for the last four years she has been a boater locally for 35 years. She is active in the pool aquatic fitness programs and enjoys making quilts for friends and family members. The Charlevoix pool is a non-profit organization that offers aquatic programming to the community drawing patrons from primarily Charlevoix and Emmet counties. Drop in pricing is available for lap swim, aquatic classes, and open swim. Schedules and hours of operation are available at www.CharlevoixPool.org

$4.5 Million in Small Business Restart Program Dollars for COVID-19 Recovery Efforts in Northwest Michigan
Through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), more than $4.5 million in Michigan Small Business Restart Program dollars will be available to support Northwest Michigan small businesses as they work to recover from the impacts of COVID-19. All grants will be between $10,000-$20,000 each and can be used as working capital to support payroll expenses, rent, utility expenses, or other similar expenses. The application period for the competitive grant program will run from July 15 through August 5. Networks Northwest will administer grants in the 10-county region in close partnership with area economic development agencies. Local economic development professionals will review all applications received and distribute the grants to ensure industry diversity and impact in every county across the region. Grants will be awarded in mid-September.
