Increased availability to orthopaedic care throughout northern Michigan has become a growing need for residents. Recognizing this need, Bay Street Orthopaedics & Spine is proud to welcome Orthopaedic Surgeon Logan Hanson, DO, to their team of specialists.

Together with his wife and two young children, Dr. Hanson moved to northern Michigan, settling in Gaylord in 2018 where he will make the new Bay Street Orthopaedics & Spine outreach office his main practice location. In addition to Gaylord, Dr. Hanson is accepting patient appointments at the Charlevoix, Petoskey and Cheboygan locations as well.

A board-eligible orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Hanson graduated from Oakland University, Cum Laude, in 2009 with a major of Science and minor of Health Sciences. He completed medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscience (KCUMB) graduating in 2013, followed by surgical residency at Beaumont Farmington Hills Hospital.

Dr. Hanson’s practice focuses on hip and knee osteoarthritis with specialized training in total knee arthroplasty and anterior total hip arthroplasty. He also treats a variety of general orthopaedic conditions including fracture care and sports injuries. Students Receive $205,288 in Scholarships from Charlevoix County Community Foundation
Nearly 100 graduating seniors from Charlevoix County high schools will receive a total of $205,288 in scholarship funds to help them launch into college and post-secondary education and training programs. While 2020 is a strange year for graduating and moving on to college, these students were grateful for the assistance through the Community Foundation. Scholarship funds were established by local citizens or groups to honor family members, community leaders, educators, and others who value continuing education.

Students shared their excitement and gratitude with receiving funding, stating that this support will allow them to focus on their education and earning a degree instead of their financial burden. Some students said that feeling the community’s support and recognition through their scholarship award meant a lot to them.

Each year the Community Foundation awards merit scholarships to outstanding local students entering the skilled trades, community colleges and 4-year colleges and universities. These students have demonstrated their eagerness to succeed beyond high school and have shown promise in their work ethic and in their academic achievement.

We Have Been Published!

I have worked very hard to build my business and then 2020 happened. I was very concerned that my business would crumble considering it is only 2 years old. Amid all the craziness of 2020, I got the most amazing news! Aisle Planner sent me an email stating that the wedding that I submitted to them was being featured! It was exactly what I needed to get me through this year and I am so grateful to have such an amazing community to share it with. Thank you to the Chamber for being so supportive this year!

Bay Street Orthopaedics Growth & Enhanced Services
Highlighted in Petoskey News Review Article

As Bay Street Orthopaedics and Spine moves through its fifth decade of operation, the Northern Michigan specialty medical practice can point to a variety of recent updates aimed at enhancing orthopedic care offerings in the region.

Justin Blohm, chief operating officer for the practice, said Bay Street’s physician lineup traditionally consisted of general surgeons, but additions of more fellowship-trained surgeons to the staff in recent years have boosted subspecialty offerings for addressing complex orthopedic issues.

Among the newer arrivals who’ve completed fellowships are Dr. Eric Mancini, who specializes in sports medicine, and Dr. Anthony Bozzio, a spine surgeon. Longer-term surgical staff members with fellowship training include Dr. Alfred Wroblewski (specializing in hand, elbow and shoulder surgery) and Dr. Scott Nemec (a foot and ankle surgeon).

“Our goal is to provide the whole range of subspecialty training so that people don’t have to drive downstate,” said Mancini, who currently serves as the practice’s managing partner.
Previously known as Bay Street Orthopaedics — a name referencing the original office location in downtown Petoskey — the practice added “Spine” to its name in 2019, reflecting the recent addition of surgical services for the spine to the existing range of musculoskeletal care.

Since the early 2000s, the Bay Street practice has been headquartered just west of Petoskey at the corner of U.S. 31 and Lake Grove Road. Some renovations earlier this year brought a new look to the building’s lobby area as well as the creation of a bracing services area, where patients can be provided with devices such as knee braces and shoulder slings. Previously, Bay Street referred patients to outside providers for bracing needs.

Bay Street, a practice founded in 1975, has expanded its group of satellite offices in recent years, adding locations in Gaylord, Traverse City, Cheboygan and Rogers City to a list that also includes satellite sites in Charlevoix and St. Ignace.
