Pet of The Week- Peach!
This pretty lady is Peach. Peach is a redbone/coonhound puppy.
She loves to play with toys, and she likes play-fighting with her sister, Daisy. She's a little hyper, being a puppy, and we're not sure how she'd do with cats. Peach loves every person she meets, and would likely do well with older children, probably 12 or older. She's not potty-trained, and tends to pee a lot out of excitement.

Squeaky Christmas – A Cheerful Partnership with Pet Pantry, Lake Effect Restoration and Little Traverse Bay Humane Society
Little Traverse Bay Humane Society is excited to announce a collaboration with Pet Pantry and Lake Effect Restoration to celebrate Squeaky Christmas! On December 23rd, Sally Crowley from Pet Pantry in Harbor Springs and David Hamm and his team from Lake Effect Restoration arrived at the shelter to hand deliver 56 dog toys and 60 cat toys to the animals still at the shelter this Christmas. Our cats were happy to snuggle up in their laps as they happily accepted their Christmas surprise, and our dogs proudly carried their toys down the hall of the shelter with joy for all to see!
“David Hamm, of Lake Effect Restoration, came to us at Pet Pantry with this wonderful idea”, said Sally Crowley. “As fellow animal lovers, the folks at Lake Effect wanted to be sure that all shelter animals felt the love at Christmas and received a toy just for them. We put our collaboration into motion and started planning in October and it was a fantastic partnership that we hope to continue for years to come. "
In addition to the holiday toy surprise, Lake Effect Restorations was dedicated to helping the community have access to dog and cat feed this holiday season. They were on a mission to fill the community pet pantry and donated over 168 pounds of dog food. Additionally, they donated over 100 pounds of dog food directly to LTBHS to help feed the animals in the shelter.
“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of Pet Pantry and Lake Effect Restoration during this holiday season”, says LTBHS Executive Director Elise Ramsey. “Thanks to their thoughtful contributions through the ‘Squeaky Christmas’ initiative, every one of our shelter pets experienced the joy of receiving a special toy on Christmas Day. Additionally, Sally and Dave's incredible donation of dog and cat food from the Pet Pantry of Harbor Springs has ensured our community pet pantry is fully stocked, extending the spirit of giving to pets beyond our shelter. Partnerships like these embody the compassion and collaboration that make our community so special.”

IMPACT100 LITTLE TRAVERSE BAY ANNOUNCES $267,000 IN GRANT FUNDING FOR 2025, POWERED BY 267 FOUNDING MEMBERS
Impact100 Little Traverse Bay proudly announces that its 2025 grants are fully funded, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of 267 Founding Members, who have collectively raised $267,000. This milestone will enable the chapter to award TWO transformative grants of $133,500 each to two nonprofits serving Emmet and/or Charlevoix counties.
“We brought Impact100 Little Traverse Bay to our community to fill a critical gap in funding for high-impact, transformative projects that have the power to create lasting change. Our community is filled with passionate nonprofits, both large and small, doing incredible work, but many lack access to the significant resources needed to bring bold ideas to life. Impact100 LTB empowers these organizations to think big, dream big, and achieve meaningful results that benefit Emmet and Charlevoix counties,” said Lloyann Curtis, Founding President of Impact100 Little Traverse Bay.
Out of the 267 members, 80 dedicated volunteer members have stepped up to serve on the grant committees, where they will carefully evaluate applications and select five finalists. These finalists will be revealed at the Meet the Finalists Event on June 25, 2025, at Bay Harbor Yacht Club (BHYC). Following this event, the entire 267 members will cast their votes to determine the two nonprofit recipients, who will each be awarded a $133,500 grant at the Annual Grant Awards Celebration on August 6, 2025, also held at BHYC.
For more information about Impact100 Little Traverse Bay, membership opportunities, or the grant application process, please visit impact100ltb.org, call Lloyann Curtis at (417) 230-9942, or email info@impact100littletraversebay.org.

Trees, Trails, and Tranquility
2024 HIGHLIGHTS FROM LITTLE TRAVERSE CONSERVANCY
In 2024, 24 landowners worked with the Little Traverse Conservancy to protect more than 1,100 acres around the five-county region using a variety of land protection tools. These lands include new nature preserves and working forest reserves, additions to existing protected lands, conservation easements that protect privately-owned lands, and an assist to local government. The lands also include:
- nearly four miles of frontage along creeks, rivers, and lakes;
- half a mile frontage along the North Central State Trail; and
- two and a half miles of scenic road frontage.
Conservancy trail highlights from last year included the following:
- Two new, designed mountain bike trails were opened.
- 18 work bees were held to remove invasive species.
- 235 volunteer hours resulted in planting trees and wildflowers and collecting native seeds (7,627 trees were planted at four preserves).
- Almost 17,000 acres of habitat were inventoried and mapped.
- Through iNaturalist, 221 people made 4,269 observations of 1,223 species on Conservancy lands.
- Nine miles of new trail were created in 2024.
In addition to new lands and trails, more than 6,500 students from 21 schools participated in more than 400 programs led by the Conservancy’s environmental education staff. Over 40 organized nature outings that were open to the public were held at Conservancy preserves and reserves throughout the year, sponsored by the Conservancy and its partners.
Highlights from Charlevoix County included:
- the new 75-acre Michael Family Nature Preserve outside of East Jordan in South Arm Township;
- the new 55-acre River’s Delight Nature Preserve in Norwood Township southeast of Charlevoix with more than 2,000 feet of frontage on Harwood Lake and 1,300 feet along Inwood Creek;
- a total of 100 acres on Beaver Island protected through a new, unnamed preserve as well as additions to the Sarah A. Martin Nature Preserve; and
- students from St. Mary’s Academy and the Round Lake Education Center participated in environmental education field trips with the Conservancy.
“The trails and woods of the nature preserves and reserves of Little Traverse Conservancy remain places that are open for ANYONE to enjoy,” said Executive Director Kieran Fleming. “This organization exists to protect our beautiful outdoors – the primary driver of our quality of life and health that we in northern Michigan are so fortunate to enjoy.”

Local Students in the “Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates” Program Shine in Washington D.C.
“Being at NSLA was, in my opinion, both one of the best and the most beneficial experiences I have ever had….I witnessed everyone there come out of their shells and develop a great deal of confidence, just like I did,” said Riley Brown, student at Northwestern Michigan College and participant in the National Student Leadership Academy in Washington D.C.
Seven local Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) students attended a National Student Leadership Academy (NSLA) in Washington D.C. this past December. The attendees were: Riley Brown (Northwestern Michigan College), Kelly Burch (Cadillac High School), Autumn Dontje (Wexford-Missaukee CTC), Carson Haskin (Northwest Education Services Career Tech Center), Ryland McVannel (East Jordan High School), Holly Riley-Lampinen (Wexford-Missaukee CTC), and Joshua Woollard (Central Lake High School). The students were accompanied by JMG Specialists LeAnne Bush and Josh Todd.
There were over 300 students who participated from across the country. These students learned and implemented skills in the areas of leadership, service, and networking to advance them to reach their career goals. These students experienced a wreath laying ceremony at the Arlington National Cemetery, engaged in a twilight monument tour, and participated in an etiquette dinner.
Participant Holly Riley-Lampinen stated "Being in DC, I was able to learn that leadership isn't always about being in charge; it's about being able to inspire and positively impact those around you."
All students who attended from Michigan were chosen through a competitive process by Youth Solutions. JMG is the premier program of Youth Solutions and is Michigan’s affiliate of Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG). The NSLA was hosted by JAG.
Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) is offered at over 100 locations across the state and helps young people succeed in their education while providing the path to a productive future. JMG is the Michigan affiliate of the national Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) network, one of the largest and most successful student-centered programs that help young people achieve their fullest potential.
Inspiring and connecting youth to achieve a future beyond imagination, Youth Solutions is committed to providing Michigan’s youth with the desire for an education, the experiences that prepare them for a job or career and the tools to realize their potential. Youth Solutions was established as a 501(c)3 in 2017 but has been serving in this capacity since 2008, positively impacting more than 18,000 youth ages 14-24, across Michigan. For more information about Youth Solutions, Inc. or to become a partner, visit us at www.ouryouthsolutions.org, follow us on X (formally Twitter) @JobsforMIGrads, or “like” us on Facebook at @JobsforMichigansGraduates.
Northwest Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates is a program of Networks Northwest, in affiliation with Northwest Michigan Works!. JMG Specialists work in collaboration with schools and career tech programs to bring soft skills training, career awareness and planning, and leadership experiences to youth throughout the ten-county region. For more information about the program, see www.nwm.org/jmg.
