North Central Michigan College's Luncheon Lecture series will take a look at sleight of hand in a lecture entitled "The Art of Illusion". The program will be held in the Library Conference Center on the Petoskey campus. You will be presented with simple illusions that will entertain you, challenge you awareness and give insight into how your eyes, mind and thought process works. Presenter will be Mike Shore, retired vice president and chief risk officer of Consumers Energy. Tickets cost $12 and includes lunch. Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital Receives Grant to Directly Help Patients
The Charlevoix County Community Foundation has awarded Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital $10,000 for two important patient funds. The Patient Needs Fund and Cancer Patient Needs Fund will each receive $5,000 to help cover the often urgent and expensive needs for patients or other persons involved in their care during a health-related crisis. This is the second year in a row that the Charlevoix County Community Foundation has generously awarded a $10,000 grant to the hospital for this purpose. Of the $10,000, a portion has been provided by the Charlevoix Women’s Group Cancer Fund at the Community 


Presidential Scholarship Offered For Graduating Home School Senior
North Central Michigan College provides a Presidential Scholarship to one graduating senior from a home school within our service area. Presidential Scholarships are offered for full tuition (up to 20 contact hours per semester) and mandatory fees for four consecutive semesters (fall and winter only). Field study fees are not included. Scholarship recipients must register for the fall semester immediately following their spring high school graduation. This is a competitive scholarship.
To be considered, a student shall:
  • Complete an online Application for Admission to North Central by April 1 of their graduation year.
  • Have a minimum 3.5 overall high school grade point average (include a high school transcript complete through the nominee’s seventh semester)
  • Submit a recommendation letter that addresses their academic potential and leadership qualities
  • Submit a statement that addresses academic and career goals and how North Central will help to meet those goals
  • Submit ACT/ SAT scores (ACT score of 18 or above for English and a Reading score of 21 or above; SAT (test prior to April 2016) score of 430 or above in English and a score of 450 or above in Reading); SAT (test starting April 2016) two-digit score of 25 or above in both English and Reading: SAT (test starting April 2016) three-digit score of 500 or above in English/Reading/Writing (ERW).

St. Mary School CAPE Winners
St Mary School 2nd and 3rd graders were recognized this week for their participation in this year’s “What Makes Your Family Strong” essay and drawing contest, sponsored by the Child Abuse Prevention and Education Council.
The students were asked to illustrate or write about the qualities in their families that keep them strong. Traits such as leadership, strength, happiness, prayerfulness and togetherness were all top themes in the St. Mary submissions.
Carol Deschermeier, St. Mary School 2nd/3rd Grade teacher was thrilled to participate in the contest and happy so many of her students were recognized. “The children had a great time with this project and it brought out a lot of very positive conversation in our classroom.”
Over 500 second and third grade students across Charlevoix and Emmet Counties participated in the contest.A medal ceremony for essay (3rd grade) and drawing (2nd grade) winners and honorable mentions is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 9th at 10am at the Petoskey Middle School auditorium.
