The Salvation Army of Petoskey Needs Your Help to "Rescue Christmas" this Year!
Due to store closings, reduced foot traffic at local stores and less people carrying cash, we could see a significant decrease of funds raised at Red Kettles this year; yet, the need has increased. We have already provided an increase of over $175,000 in emergency assistance through August and expect to see an increase in our Holiday Assistance as well. Please visit https://centralusa.salvationarmy.org/petoskey/ or call (231) 347-3531 to start helping now!

Charlevoix Conservation District Native Plant Demonstration Garden Planted!
We are excited to share with you our newly planted Native Garden! Provided all by the way of donations, starting with local native plant enthusiast, Pat Brinker, and her donation of $400 to begin the project. Pat's idea to begin a demonstration garden on site came together by way of additional plant donations from Vern Stephens of Designs By Nature and Birdsfoot Native Nursery of South Boardman. Additional support for the garden was also provided by participants through our Fall Native Plant Sale through flat donations and rounding up orders. A total of $280 was raised through our Fall sale, with our largest donation for this year's sale from local resident, Nancy Winter. Many thanks to everyone for their support - every little bit adds up and makes a huge difference!

Check out the photo gallery HERE! We can't wait to see what it looks like this time next year!

McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital to Purchase Artwork for New Wing - Northern Michigan Artist Invited to Submit Work for Consideration
As the Building the Future of Health Care expansion project progresses, McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation (Foundation) would like to visually celebrate, through the eyes of area artists, northern Michigan and the special place it holds in the hearts of all who reside in or visit the region. On behalf of the Foundation, Distinctive Art Source, a consulting firm specializing in art programs for health care settings, will carefully select over 300 pieces of artwork for purchase and installation in the new wing on the Petoskey campus, scheduled to open early Summer 2021.

Artwork will be chosen for therapeutic properties benefitting its viewers, including patients, visitors and staff. Selected art content will reflect the natural beauty of northern Michigan along with the outdoor lifestyle that provides multi-generational family enjoyment. Art content may include regional lakes and rivers, farmland, orchards and vistas, flora and fauna native to northern Michigan, beloved local landmarks, festivals and events, and outdoor recreation such as boating, skiing, biking, and fishing.

The Foundation is partnering with Crooked Tree Arts Center and the Northwest Michigan Arts & Culture Network to connect with artists throughout northern Michigan and to support the region’s vibrant art community. Distinctive Art Source will propose, purchase and place artwork based on content, style, cost and where the artist resides. Artwork will be featured in public and patient areas in new and renovated spaces.

Distinctive Art Source is hosting a Virtual Information Session for Artists at 7:00 p.m. on October 7, 2020, to discuss and answer questions about the project. Information for joining the Zoom Meeting is provided HERE as well as contacts for more information.

McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation is grateful for generous contributions to this art program and for the opportunity to partner with the vibrant art community in Northern Michigan. A very special thank you to Crooked Tree Arts Center and Northwest Michigan Arts & Culture Network for helping to reach Northern Michigan artists.

Construction Begins for Great Lakes Energy Headquarters Expansion
A ground-breaking ceremony to celebrate the expansion of the Great Lakes Energy headquarters was held Wednesday, September 23, in Boyne City. The expansion will provide much-needed infrastructure and space for the growth the electric cooperative has experienced in recent years.

Truestream, GLE’s new fiber internet and voice network, plays a vital role in the need to expand. Launched in 2018 in rural parts of Emmet, Charlevoix, and Cheboygan counties, Truestream brings high-speed internet, with speeds up to 1 Gig, and voice services to homes and businesses that have long been without broadband.
