Neutrals - Unseen Colors
Paint Colors No One Has Seen Before

Welcome Back to Another BobBlast!
Why do we paint? When asked, many of us respond, "COLOR!"

Colorful paintings are rewarding to make. The final painting typically will stop us in our tracks. Color draws our attention… no matter what the mood, theme, or whether it is abstract or realism.

So what are "Neutral Colors" and why do I like using them? After years of painting many colorful paintings, I wanted to dig deeper into simplifying my palette; making a neutral with only three colors: Two colors across from each other on any artist Color Wheel (either the Universal twelve-color wheel or my ten-color Goof-Proof Color Wheel) The third color is WHITE.

Here's how this works for me - try this!
•Make a wall chart like the one above. It is samples of neutrals - What you can expect when you mix two colors + white. 
•Hang the chart on the wall in your studio and refer to them for that one neutral color you’re looking for.

Now here comes the WHY… This is why I consider using neutral colors in my latest work. My new paintings have a strong, colorful focal point. To increase attention to the color, I paint the neutrals around the focal point, to emphasize the pure color. Watch the demo for an example of this technique.
