Collage and Paint… This BobBlast is all about loosely painting carrot people with attitude, and then… put some clothes on them! Clothes are colorful bits of paint and collage paper. That’s what I’m currently doing in the studio—experimenting in the studio with a relaxed mind and spirit.
Watch the video… Big brushes make loose carrots. Add a layer of colorful acrylic. At this point, I also use a reductive painting technique to reshape the figure. For the initial figure, I used black acrylic, then the primaries, then mixed color with Titanium White to make the color opaque.
After the paint has dried, create the drama, flamboyance and the narrative with collage papers—Add flashy skirts, crazy pants, even hats to add theatrical flair. Paint a series of these clothed carrots as an exercise in loose improvisation, using large brushes, plenty of water and several sheets of watercolor paper. Paint several per sheet—then one larger clothed figure.
Put on some loud dance music and… Ready, Set, Paint!
