NEWS

Just 145 days ago we launched the Tradition of Excellence Fieldhouse Project Fundraiser, and late next month we will see this project completed. WOW!! This would never have been possible without the support and incredible generosity of our donors!

We invite our entire MHS Mustang community to SAVE THE DATE for the Tradition of Excellence GRAND REVEAL on AUGUST 10th at 4:30 PM.

As promised, the project is right on track to be completed by the start of SAC camp in early June. With many of you traveling or just soaking up the lazy days of summer, we feared a celebratory event in June would be a stretch and not yield the energy or turnout it deserves. Hosting the celebration in August means we get to honor our donors, celebrate the fabulous new space they have afforded our community, and launch a new school year filled with promise + built on #THESTANDARD.

YOU ARE INVITED, and we can't wait to celebrate with you on August 10th!

GO STANGS!!

Mustangs Sweep Westside, Advance to Round 2 of Playoffs!

The Memorial High School Mustangs Varsity Baseball team opened the playoffs in dominant fashion this week, sweeping the Westside Wolves in two commanding wins to advance to Round 2.

In game one on Wednesday, Memorial earned a 10–0 shutout behind outstanding pitching from Grant Sperandio and Wyatt Baskin. Sperandio was dominant, allowing just one hit while striking out six over four innings. Offensively, Isaac Richardson put together a perfect night at the plate, collecting three hits including a home run and a double, while Ethan Baylis added key RBIs as the Mustangs pulled away early.

The Mustangs followed up with a convincing 16–1 win on Thursday. Ben Fuqua set the tone on the mound with three hitless innings, and the Mustangs exploded offensively with contributions from Evan Mauritzen, Dillon Norris, Jake Earnest, Isaac Richardson, and Boone McLaughlin.

With the sweep, Memorial improves to 26–6 overall and moves on to Round 2 of the playoffs against the winner of Katy Taylor and George Ranch. Game locations and times will be announced soon — stay tuned and Go Mustangs!

Congratulations to the Mustang Boys Golf Team on their recent performance at the UIL 6A State Championship. The event was played at White Bluff Golf Course on Lake Whitney. The Mustangs finished up 4th at the State Tournament after winning the previous 6 events in a row. The Mustangs were led by Junior Freeman Woldert who paced the Mustangs with some tough play. Senior Austin Le, Junior Grant DeLorenzo, Junior Nate Tipton, and Sophomore Ian Chen all played well. The Mustangs raced up the leaderboard during the final round to show much heart on their quest. Nate Tipton posted the low round of the tournament for the Stangs with a final round even par 72.

GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL NEWS

In a season that will be remembered for years to come, the Memorial High School girls flag football team closed out their inaugural campaign with authority, defeating Bush High School 38–6 and finishing undefeated, a historic milestone that sets the tone for years to follow.
With Houston on the global stage as the FIFA World Cup trophy tour made its way to town Saturday, the real trophies were the undeniable Lady Mustangs on the field. With warm, beach-like weather and music from Edward Mercer Stadium rolling through the stands, spin moves electrified the game, intelligent plays led by quarterback Angelyn Rau kept the defense guessing, and the sideline carried an energy that pulled in first time fans witnessing something special in real time.
Memorial never looked out of rhythm. And every time Bush tried to build something, the defense shut it down. Daniela Valle led the way with key interceptions that shifted momentum and kept Bush on their heels. Every possession felt intentional and every play added to the growing identity of a team that refused to slow down.
Game 4 scoring reflected the firepower that defined their season. Catherine Daly opened the scoring, followed by a successful extra point from Reese ListengartAmayria Platt added to the lead, then Ellie Listengart found the end zone with Reese Listengart once again securing the extra point. Amayria Platt struck again before Catherine Cummings closed out the scoring.
What stood out just as much as the wins was the team’s well rounded development and chemistry, which has grown stronger each week and now feels fully locked in. It is the kind of connection that shows up in every play and sets the pace as they head into the District Playoffs this Saturday.
Each touchdown told the story of a team that did more than compete in its first season. They set a standard. Undefeated and united, the Lady Mustangs now carry momentum, belief, and the energy of a team that knows exactly who they are at the right time.
Making history in women’s sports is a reminder that every breakthrough builds on the last, from 1972 and Title IX to today, where young athletes are no longer asking for a seat at the table, they are taking over the field.
