Libby,

- Ballots begin to be mailed to all registered CA voters: October 10
- Online registration deadline: October 24
- Register by mail deadline: Must be postmarked by October 24
Oaklanders (and all Californians) can register to vote or check your registration status here. Even if you are already registered to vote, chances are you have friends or family who aren't! This November, let’s make sure our entire community is represented at the ballot box.

Oakland Shows Up for Creek to Bay Day
Creeks shape our city. On Saturday for the 27th annual Creek to Bay Day, we joined incredible volunteers at Sausal Creek, Courtland Creek, MLK Shoreline, Jingletown, and the Lake Merritt Channel, and celebrated the 20th anniversary of community-created FROG Park. A perfectly Oakland Creek to Bay Day!
A huge thank you to all Oaklanders who participated. Visit this link to give feedback on the event , submit photos, and record any activity you did at home and/or in your community.

Oakland Education Programs as a Nationwide Model
A recent column in the East Bay Times discusses the potential for three of Oakland's education support programs—#OaklandUndivided, Oakland Promise, and Teachers Rooted in Oakland (TRiO)—to serve as models for similar programs around the country. The column points to these programs as "a fundamental rethinking of how educational services are provided so that students from the earliest age have a growth and college mindset." While more and more federal resources are being directed towards education and broadband infrastructure, we hope that Oakland's innovations spur similar investments and help us communities around the country prioritize the potential of our children.

AG Launches Office of Gun Violence Prevention
We are grateful to Attorney General Rob Bonta for announcing the creation of California's new Office of Gun Violence Prevention, which will deliver additional state resources to help us address and prevent the gun violence epidemic that has caused so much trauma in our cities and across our state.
The Office of Gun Violence Prevention is the first state-level department of its kind in the nation. Oakland's Department of Violence Prevention was established in 2017, and has greatly expanded violence prevention and intervention efforts in our city, with a mission of advocating for and supporting families impacted by unsolved cold cases and addressing broader community trauma. The creation of this new office is vital in ending the cycles of violence that affect so many in our community.
