Weekend with David Zahl
February 2 - February 3, 2019
We are excited to welcome David Zahl, Director of Mockingbird Ministries and editor in chief of the Mockingbird Blog, who will be with us February 2nd & 3rd.  Born in New York City and brought up elsewhere, David graduated from Georgetown University in 2001, and then worked for several years as a youth minister in New England. In 2007 he founded Mockingbird in NYC. Today David and his wife Cate reside in Charlottesville, VA with their three boys, where David also serves on the staff of Christ Episcopal Church. His first book, A Mess of Help: From the Crucified Soul of Rock N' Roll, appeared in 2014. Most recently, David co-authored Law and Gospel: A Theology for Sinners (and Saints) with Will McDavid and Ethan Richardson. Even after all these years, he's still mourning the end of Calvin and Hobbes (and hoping that Morrissey and Marr will bury the hatchet). His favorite theologian is probably a cross between Johnny Cash, Flannery O'Connor and his brother Simeon. Further details will follow. We hope you'll mark your calendar and plan to join us for a fun weekend!

Sixteen on the 2019 DR Team
Deadline to join: January 31
As of January 3, 16 missioners have signed up for the 2019 mission team to the Dominican Republic, and a 17th and 18th are giving it serious consideration. The two newest missioners are Emily Taylor, a Valwood senior and a member of the Valwood women's basketball team coached by fellow missioner Steph Johnson; and Sarah Brittany Sandbach, one of Sandy and Elise's nieces. who is a first-grade teacher in Columbia County, GA.  The 2019 team is limited to 18 people because of the size of the in-country transportation we use.  The deadline to join the team is January 31, 2019.
