Oktoberfest this year is Thursday, October 20th, with the biergarten opening at 6:00 p.m. and dinner served around 6:30.

Since Jane needs to know how many bratwurst to order, please sign up before October 6^th. There will be a sign-up sheet in the parish hall, or you can email the church office.

If you’d like to contribute by bringing potato salad (German or “regular”) or sauerkraut, there’ll also be a sign-up sheet for that in the parish hall. Danke schön!

The vestry of Christ Church has committed Christ Church to sponsor a Habitat for Humanity House build this fall. The Dave Clark "Build for the Cure" will be in memory of Dave Clark and his son Michael, who died of cystic fibrosis.

Fr. David and the vestry encourage you to support the build with your labor and with your financial gifts. Those gifts should be in addition to your regular giving to God in support of Christ Church's ministries. You can designate your check for Habitat on the memo line, or visit our website page Dave Clark Build for the Cure to donate.

The date for the groundbreaking has been set for Saturday, September 24th at 11:00 a.m. Will be held at 740 E. Ann Street.

Hospitality has been asked to provide the refreshments at the Dave Clark Build ground breaking ceremony and blessing by Fr. Perkins on Saturday, Sept 24^th at 11 am. 

Refreshment Ideas: (biscuits, banana bread, pumpkin bread, sliced fruit, sausage rolls etc.)

Foyer Groups – Last Call to be included in a Foyer Group for this year. Please let Jeani Synyard know by Sunday, September 18th if you are interested in participating.

Children’s Church will be held on September 18^th. Children age 3 – 5^th grade are welcome to meet Keri Wilkin in the Children’s Classroom in Gabard. (This is the first classroom on the left in the preschool hallway.)

Live-Streaming this week of the 10:00 service on September 18, 2022 will begin at 9:55 a.m. If for any reason we experience Technical difficulties with the Live-streaming, a recording of the service will be uploaded and a link sent to the congregation at a later time.

Work has begun to modify the church building to accommodate the new audio and video equipment needed to upgrade our livestreaming ministry. That livestreaming activity will be based in a new broadcast booth to be constructed by the back wall on the College Street side of the church. Since electrical power was not available in that area, new power lines have now been installed in the back wall, and soon audio and video cables will connect this location to the location of new video cameras and microphones. Since the electricians had to access the ceiling over the choir for some of this activity, we asked them to take down the large speaker that was over the choir. This speaker has not been functioning for some time, but it might be repurposed for use in another location in the future.

 Celebration Dinner

Free childcare and dinner will be provided at Christ Church Gabard Building for children of all ages from 5:30 - 9:00 p.m. Please RSVP the church office before September 26, 2022.

Annual Blessing of the Animals will be held on Sunday, October 9^th beginning at 2:00 p.m. St Francis' Feast Day will be Tuesday, October 4th. We celebrate his unique relationship to nature and to animals by having a blessing of animals around that time each year. This year, we will celebrate St. Francis by blessing animals on Sunday, October 9th. We will regather at 2 pm, which will give you the opportunity to go home and gather your pets. If you bring a cat or a reptile, we would suggest caging them. Dogs and cats tend to create friction when closely aligned.

The Stitchers of Love are now meeting twice a month on the first and third Sundays in the Parish Hall from 4 to 6 p.m. All are welcome. We will teach anyone who is interested in learning to knit or crochet. The next meeting is September 18th.

Tuesday Night Bible Study

The Tuesday night Bible study led by Willa Valencia will resume on September 20, from 7:30 to 8:30 pm at the home of Ron and Tammy Borders on Williams Street. All adults are welcome. Please bring your Bible—any translation.

Lunch Bunch will meet in the Parish Hall beginning at 10:30 a.m. on September 24, 2022. The Christ Church Valdosta Lunch Bunch feeds 120 or more hungry children every second and fourth Saturday of the month. Workers from the church as well as other members of the community who volunteer gather at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Church to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. They pack them in plastic bags, then brown paper bags with logo stickers together with chips, fruit, juice and other healthy goodies purchased from the Second Harvest Food Bank. Volunteers are welcome.

We had a great, diverse  and enthusiastic crowd at the first HEP Lunch time last month over 20+ HEP nooners! Friday seemed to be the best day and noon as a starting time with no ending time :) We will host the next one at our home on October 21 [every other month was suggested on the third Friday of the month.] We will provide soup, drinks and dessert- please bring mini sandwiches or whatever will go with soup. Looking for someone to host December gathering on Dec 16th [third Friday of the month.] Next one would be February 17- volunteers?

CAC Project Update: Keep those stuffed animals coming. The Children's Advocacy Center appreciates our donations of stuffed animals to comfort the children who come to the center for appointments. They schedule over 125 appointments each month, so we can always use more. If you have questions, please contact Patricia Marks at spmarks@bellsouth.net, or Julia Ariail at juliacariail@gmail.com. Thanks for your help.

Sunday Evening Vespers - a group of Christ Church members meet on Zoom (2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays) at 6:00 p.m. to read the Compline Service, pages 127-135 in the Book of Common Prayer and for friendly conversation afterwards. The first and third Sundays of the month we will meet in-person, but will make an audio recording available after Vespers for those unable to attend in-person.
