Business of the Year Recognition Program
College Park’s growing and vibrant business community is full of unsung heroes who provide well-paying jobs for our residents, develop creative solutions to everyday problems, and take care of the community that they call home.

To show our appreciation for these outstanding businesses and their positive impacts on our community, the City has recently developed a Business of the Year recognition program. The program is designed to highlight the contributions of one particularly outstanding business each year.

Residents and business owners are encouraged to nominate their favorite businesses for the reward. The winning business will be announced in October and will receive a plaque to place in their establishment.

Nominations are accepted via the online web form on our website now through August 31, 2019. For details or to nominate a business, visit www.collegeparkmd.gov/econdev .

A WEEK IN REVIEW
Department of Public Works
A new Sunnyside neighborhood sign was installed to replace the old faded sign at the intersection of 51st Ave and Odessa Rd.

The work at Rhode Island Ave and Ontario Rd is the beginning phase of a project to repair a collapsed storm water inlet in the right shoulder lane of the 495/95 beltway. The outfall for this inlet drains onto the hillside on the of Ontario Rd and has created a significant channel of erosion over the years. MDOT is currently clearing the vegetation below the outfall to prepare for the installation of piping that will transport the stormwater from the beltway to an existing stormwater inlet on Ontario Rd. The area where the vegetation has been removed will be stabilized to prevent erosion until the second phase of the project during which the piping system will be installed. This project is being supervised by Maryland Environmental Services.

Crews performed an abatement at the 4600 block of College Ave in conjunction with a court order to remove wooden plywood erected as fencing and properly secure material to board up windows.

New window treatments at the Old Parish House have been installed in the entry parlor room and the main meeting room to replace the wooden shutters. Seven cornices covered with fabric were installed at the top of the windows in a manner to display the ornate medallions in the window trim corners. Adjustable screen shades were installed under the cornices to provide light filtering in these rooms. The wooden shutters in the restrooms were also removed and adjustable screen shades were installed to provide needed privacy in these rooms.
