Night at the Movies
Saturday, August 27, 2022 | 7-10pm | College Park Woods Park
The City of College Park will host another Family Night at the Movies tomorrow, Saturday, August 27!
Activities start around 7:00pm with games for kids and adults. The movie, Sing 2, will be shown around 8:30pm.
Popcorn will be available. Admission and parking are free. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to sit outside on the grass.
No pets, tents, or umbrellas please.

Redistricting Commission Meetings
The City’s Redistricting Commission will hold two meetings for residents to review and provide feedback on the Commission’s draft City District maps prior to the Commission presenting its report to the City Council on September 27th. Residents can review the draft maps at www.CollegeParkMDRedistricting2022.com.
The first meeting will be held at Davis Hall (9217 51st Ave) at 7:00 pm Thursday, September 1, 2022.
The second meeting will be held at City Hall (7401 Baltimore Avenue) at 7:00 pm Monday, September 12, 2022. Residents can join both meetings via Zoom at https://zoom.us/j/91603412440.
The Commission has been meeting since May to review the 2020 Census data, data from the University regarding its residential population, and projections for residential projects under construction. An analysis of the population data confirms that the City must adjust the current district boundaries in order to have equal districts. Fall Tree Giveaway
The city is planning a free tree giveaway this fall to provide residents with native trees to help begin the restoration of the tree canopy damaged by the July 12th storm.
Request up to two trees to plant on your property! City residents only. The deadline to register is September 16, 2022.

Curbside Food Scrap Collection Coming Soon!
The City of College Park is rolling out a new curbside food scrap collection program this fall!
If your household currently receives curbside trash and recycling collection within the City of College Park, then you are eligible to participate; residential collections only.
Households can register by filling out the online form here. Public Works staff will follow up with you when the containers are ready to pick up, they will also let you know when the program will start and provide educational information. For a full list of what is accepted, visit our Food Scraps page.
How Do I Sign Up?
Residents can sign up online and choose container(s). Participants are required to select either a 12-gallon wheeled cart ($13.00), or a 5-gallon bucket ($9.00). Participants can also choose to purchase a small kitchen pail ($5.00) to store food scraps inside their homes. Sign up for the service online here or visit collegeparkmd.gov/CurbsideCollectionApp.

Rossborough Lane Closure
Please note the upcoming road closure for Rossborough Lane due to Purple Line construction:
From August 8 through September 10, 2022, Rossborough Lane will be closed to all traffic. During the closure, driving and parking will be prohibited on Rossborough Lane between Diamondback Drive and Rhode Island Avenue.
Then from September 12 to October 22nd, the westbound lane will be closed. Please follow all posted road closure and/or detour notices and signs.

Labor Day Collections Schedule
All City offices will be closed on Monday, September 5, 2022 in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Refuse and recycling will occur one day later than normal during this holiday week.
- Monday collections will occur on Tuesday, September 6, 2022
- Tuesday collections will occur on Wednesday, September 7, 2022
- Wednesday collections will occur on Thursday, September 8, 2022
Special collections for brush and bulky items will only be scheduled for Friday, September 9, 2022 of this holiday week. You must call 240-487-3590 or email publicworks@collegeparkmd.gov to schedule a pickup before setting your items out to the curb.

City Tree Programs
Trees provide many benefits such as reduction of cooling and heating costs, interception of rainwater, increasing property values and improving air quality. The City offers a few ways to help. More information is available at www.collegeparkmd.gov/trees.
REQUESTS FOR STREET TREES: The City has a program that pays for and provides street tree planting in the right-of-way area, which includes the grass strip between the curb and sidewalk. College Park residents interested in requesting a tree can contact Brenda Alexander at 240-487-3590 or horticulturist@collegeparkmd.gov. The location will be inspected to determine if it is suitable.
TREE CANOPY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM (TCEP): City of College Park property owners can apply for reimbursement of up to $150.00 annually, for approved tree(s) planted on their residential lot. The completed application should be sent to horticulturist@collegeparkmd.gov for review and approval. Click here for a link to the guidelines and application.
TREE MAINTENANCE The City is responsible for tree maintenance in the rights-of-way, City maintained buildings and parks, and on public property. Trees on private property are the responsibility of the property owner.

Urban Tree Protection: Ordinance 21-O-09
This Ordinance requires an application to be submitted for approval to obtain a permit to remove or prune a tree on residential land.
Beginning July 1, 2022, trees on residential property within the City of College Park, greater than 36 inches in circumference measured at 4.5 feet above ground level, on which the property owner wants to remove or prune live branches or wood more than 20% will need to submit an application to the Department of Public Works for a tree removal/pruning permit and receive approval prior to beginning planned tree work. A requirement of the tree removal/pruning permit is that urban tree(s) approved for removal are replaced.

Maryland Department of Agriculture's Mosquito Control Program
The City cooperates with the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) to identify and control mosquito populations by larviciding and spraying. MDA has designated Wednesday nights for adult mosquito spraying in the city (when thresholds are met). Spraying will only begin after dark and may continue until midnight or later. Spray applications are made by truck-mounted ultra-low volume (ULV) sprayers. If you see a truck in your community spraying during the day, please note that it is not from the State of Maryland. Please be aware that MDA does not spray individual properties, and the City is on a 2 or 3-week rotation based on mosquito thresholds.
REQUEST FOR EXEMPTION FROM ADULT MOSQUITO CONTROL SERVICES
Residents can request exclusion from the adult spray program by completing an exemption form annually.

Friday Night Live
Friday, September 9 | 12:00-6:00pm | College Park Aviation Museum
PROST! The City of College Park is hosting its last in a series of 5 summer concerts and you are invited! Join us on the plaza at the new City Hall building for Friday Night LIVE! OKTOBERFEST on September 9th.
This last event will feature the Edelweiss Band, specialists in traditional Bavarian and Oktoberfest music for Washington, Baltimore and the N. Virginia area since 1969.There will also be the Schuhplattler und Gebirgstrachten Verein Washingtonia dance group, a traditional bell ringing, knee slapping, yodeling German Schuhplattler dance group!
There will be something for everyone-- music, food, beer, and entertainment. There will be children’s performers, activities and arts and crafts available for kids as well.
We will also be giving out some City of College Park logo’d beer steins to the first 300 adults attending. (while supplies, last of course) Some come and celebrate Oktoberfest with us on Sept. 9th here at City Hall.
All concerts will be held at City Hall Plaza (7401 Baltimore Avenue) until September from 6:30 to 8:30PM.
Parking will be offered for free at the Downtown College Park parking garage at the corner of Yale and Knox. Local food and beer will be available for purchase during the event!
