City Offices Closed for New Year's Day Holiday
|
All City Offices will be closed on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 in observance of the New Year's Day holiday.
Monday refuse and recycling collections will occur as normal, however Tuesday and Wednesday collections will slide forward one day.
Special collections will only occur on Friday, January 4, 2019.
You must contact the Department of Public Works at 240-487-3590 or email
publicworks@collegeparkmd.gov
to schedule a pickup before setting your items out on the curb.

Important Safety Tips and Reminders for Winter Break
|
Before you leave for winter break or vacation, please check out the following safety reminders from the University of Maryland Police Department.
- Double check all windows and doors are locked and secured prior to leaving.
- If leaving for winter break, take valuable items (jewelry, money, portable electronics, etc.) with you to avoid potential theft.
- Remove items of value and secure windows and doors from your vehicle.
- Ask a friend or a trusted neighbor to keep an eye on your home while you are away.
- Store and secure any loose items that might be in the yard (ladder, tools, bicycle, etc.)
- Set your alarm to your security system.
- If possible, put lights on a timer to give the appearance of someone being home.
- Stop mail and newspaper deliveries.

The Four City Sweeper is currently completing another cycle of street sweeping in College Park.
Leaf Collection is on schedule. We have begun our last city-wide collection. Next week we will be in SA3-Estates and Yarrow; SA4-Lakeland and Berwyn; SA8-Woods, Crystal Springs, Accredale and Patricia Ct; SA5-Rhode Island Ave west.
The City's landscape crew is performing regularly scheduled leaf removal, pruning and clean-up work.
Fresh Air Concepts, the contractor on CP-19-01 Replacement of HVAC Equipment at Youth and Family started construction of the replacement of the equipment at YFS. We expect work to continue for the next 2-3 weeks.
The City has a program to reimburse the cost (up to $150.00) of approved trees on private property, it’s called the Tree Canopy Enhancement Program (TCEP).

Weekly Highlights of Contract Police Activity

12/16
Contract officer conducted a traffic stop at Baltimore Avenue and Knox Road for a minor infraction. The driver was placed under arrest for DUI.
12/17
Contract officers responded to a call for service for a report of an assault in the 4500 block of Knox Road. The suspect was placed under arrest and charged accordingly.
12/18
Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Speed Enforcement) in the 4900 block of Greenbelt Road. (45 citations were issued as the officer was operating the portable “Mobile Camera.”)
Officers conducted directed patrol at the student housing locations throughout the city to prevent the breaking and entering.

City Tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Saturday, January 12, 2019
2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Kay Theatre, The Clarice
Join us for the 28th Annual City Tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Saturday, January 12. 2019 from 2:00 -3:30 p.m. at The Clarice located on the University of Maryland campus. This inspirational and educational event is free and for all ages.
This year's theme is "Injustice Anywhere is a Threat to Justice Everywhere" presented by the 2019 Keynote Speaker Melvin C. High. Mr. High is Prince George's County Sheriff.
Free event parking is available nearby in University Lots 1b and Z all day on Saturdays (excluding home football games). These lots are about a 2-5 minute walk to the venue. There are also paid parking options in the Stadium Drive Garage as well.
The selections and songs presented during the event are chosen by the participants as their way to honor Dr. King. The City, by sponsoring this event, does not endorse any particular religion, belief system or presentation.
