All City Offices Closed for President's Day
All City offices will be closed on Monday, February 17, 2020 in observance of President's Day. Trash will be collected one day later than usual, and special trash collection will only occur on Friday.

Food Scrap Drop-Off
New drop-off location open in the southern part of the City!
|
|
Instead of putting food scraps in the trash, City residents can drop them off for FREE at the following locations:

Public Works
, 9217 51st Avenue, College Park – available 24/7
·
Old Town Playground/Community Garden
(7504 Columbia Ave.) – available 24/7
The new drop-off location is in the southern part of the City on Columbia Avenue near the Old Town Playground, between Norwich Road and College Avenue.
Five-gallon food scrap buckets are still available at the Department of Public Works. Pick up during regular business hours (Mon-Fri 7:30 am to 4:00 pm). The buckets are useful to transport collected food scraps to the drop off location.
Acceptable items: fruit and vegetable scraps; coffee grounds and tea leaves; dry goods - breads, pasta, nuts, rice and grains; dairy products, eggs and egg shells; meat, fish, poultry and bones – cooked or uncooked; food soiled paper products – napkins, paper towels, coffee filters, and tea bags.
Please
DO NOT
include plastic products of any kind, pet or human waste, diapers, clam or oyster shells, grease or fats, or ash from wood or charcoal.

The new Food Scrap drop off in Old Town has received 66 lbs. of diverted food scraps in the initial opening week.
New No Dumping Signs are being installed to replace outdated signage.
The 100 cubic yards of playground surfacing material delivered last week has been installed at Duvall, Davis, Muskogee, Hollywood, the Mews and Calvert Hills playgrounds.
City Horticulturist attended the College Park Airport Tree Trimming presentation on Thursday, February 6th.
City Engineer reports that the newly installed wood barrier across southbound Rhode Island Avenue will be modified to allow for through bike traffic by the middle of next week, weather permitting.

There was one Municipal Infraction issued for the Noise Ordinance and zero issued for the Nuisance (Unruly Social Gathering) Ordinance.

Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Stop Sign Enforcement) at Hollywood Road and 47th Place. 1 citation and 1 warning were issued.
1/25
Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Speed Enforcement) on Campus Drive and issued 6 citations and 9 warnings were issued.
1/26
Contract officers (foot patrol) observed 2 males blocking the sidewalk in the 7400 block Baltimore Avenue. The parties (intoxicated) were involved in a verbal altercation and one of them struck the other with a closed fist. The altercation was broken up as both parties refused to press charges. 2 student referrals were submitted.

Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Speed Enforcement) in the 9000 block of Baltimore Avenue. 7 citations were issued as the officer was operating the portable “Mobile Camera.”

Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Speed Enforcement) in the 4900 block of Greenbelt Road. 10 citations were issued as the officer was operating the portable “Mobile Camera.”

Contract officer responded to a call for service in the 7500 block of Columbia Avenue regarding loud music. Music could be heard from the street as the party was “shut down”. Student referral was submitted. While on the call officers heard loud music coming from another property in the 7500 block of Columbia Avenue. A separate student referral was issued for this residence.

Contract officer issued 5 citations in the Hollywood Community regarding the ongoing issue involving repair shop and unregistered vehicles.
There were several premise checks conducted throughout the City.
