Help Prevent Theft from Vehicles
Help prevent thefts from your vehicles by locking your doors, taking valuables inside or hiding them in the trunk or cargo area. Shut off your engine and take keys inside with you.

Report suspicious activity in the area or theft from your vehicle immediately to 9-1-1. If you see anyone acting suspiciously, report it to police immediately at 9-1-1.
Christmas Tree Recycling
Christmas Tree Recycling occurs throughout the month of January by our Department of Public Works. The trees are collected on Thursdays and Fridays; to ensure collection, call 240-487-3590 or email [email protected] to schedule an appointment . Please remove all decorations and place the tree at the curb for collection.

In anticipation of the snow event this weekend, crews are pre-treating streets as a proactive measure to keep roads safe and clear of snow and ice. Deployment plans are prepared for possible weekend snow operations.

The Department completed the final Leaf Collection for this season on 1/11/19. Soft yard waste pick-up will resume next week on regular trash collection days Mon-Wed. Leaves will need to be put in paper yard waste bags or they need to be in containers.

Safety Meeting held Thursday for all Department employees to review Chain Saw Safety and proper operation.

The Department and SCS, our consultant for the Solid Waste Study, presented the results and recommendations of the Bulk Trash Study to the City Council on 1/9/19.

The City has a program to reimburse the cost (up to $150.00) of approved trees on private property, it’s called the Tree Canopy Enhancement Program (TCEP). Click here for more information and application.

Weekly Highlights of Contract Police Activity
December 28 - January 3, 2018
12/28 Contract officers responded to a call for service for a Breaking and Entering Report (In Progress) in the 5100 block of Navahoe Street. No crime noted as a locksmith was changing the locks to the residence.

12/28 Contract officers assisted the Code Enforcement Officer in the 7500 block of Dartmouth Road with juveniles on the rooftop. Juveniles were turned over to their parents.

1/3 Contract officers responded to a call for service for a suspicious package in the 4800 block of Fox Street. Incident was declared a Hazmat situation. No illicit materials located inside the package. Suspicious Activity Report was completed.

1/3 Contract officers attended the community meeting in Hollywood.

Officers conducted directed patrol at the student housing locations throughout the city to prevent burglaries during the break.

City Tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Saturday, January 12, 2019

Join us for the 28th Annual City Tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Saturday, January 12. 2019 from 2:00 -3:30 p.m. at The Clarice located on the University of Maryland campus. This inspirational and educational event is free and for all ages. 

This year's theme is "Injustice Anywhere is a Threat to Justice Everywhere" presented by the 2019 Keynote Speaker Melvin C. High. Mr. High is Prince George's County Sheriff. 

Free event parking is available nearby in University Lots 1b and Z all day on Saturdays (excluding home football games). These lots are about a 2-5 minute walk to the venue. There are also paid parking options in the Stadium Drive Garage as well.
