COVID-19 Updates
Additional COVID-19 Testing Site Opening in College Park - Starting Saturday, January 15
Thanks to M-NCPPC, Express Healthcare will be able to expand its services to provide additional rapid and PCR testing in the community at:
Wells Ice Rink, 5211 Campus Drive, College Park, MD 20740.
Testing will operate Monday through Friday 8:00 am-6:00 pm and Saturday & Sunday from 9:00 -7:00 pm. No appointment needed. Drive-Up Only. The opening of this site will assist in reducing traffic congestion on Baltimore Avenue and in the Lakeland community and provide additional testing in the community.
COVID-19 At-Home Test Kit Distribution
County Executive Angela Alsobrooks announced that the Prince George’s County Health Department and the Office of Emergency Management will begin handing out 25,000 at-home rapid COVID-19 test kits at designated locations each week, in partnership with the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC).

Old Town Historic District Local Advisory Committee
The Prince George’s County Historic Preservation Commission is seeking interested residents and property owners who live in the Old Town College Park Historic District and/or in the City of College Park to volunteer to serve on the Old Town College Park Historic District Local Advisory Committee (OTCPHD LAC). The Local Advisory Committee reviews Historic Area Work Permits (HAWPs) and development applications that impact the Old Town College Park Historic District and provides comments and recommendations to the Historic Preservation Commission on those applications.

Prince George's Home Ownership Preservation Program
The Prince George's Home Ownership Preservation Program (PGHOPP), launched last November, can provide up to $30,000 to homeowners for health, safety, energy efficiency, and accessibility repairs in qualified, owner-occupied homes. Households under 50% of the area median income (AMI) can receive up to $50,000 in services. There are income, location, and eligibility requirements. DHCD has partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Metro Maryland to implement this program in the County’s qualified census tract areas with special emphasis on homes within one mile of a future Purple Line transit stop. Maryland Homeowner Assistance Fund
The State announced the $248 million Maryland Homeowner Assistance Fund. It will be administered by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) to support mortgage relief, home repairs, housing counseling, and legal services. 2021 ARPA Assistance Grants
The City has established two programs to assist businesses, non-profits, and residents address negative financial impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The American Rescue Program Act (ARPA) has provided funds that the City is using for these and many other projects. The goal of these programs is to help our residents, businesses and non-profits get back on their feet and better prepared to be financially successful in the future. The Department is located at 9217 51st Ave. Business hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Wood mulch is back in stock. All deliveries are finished for the season, but material is available year-round for pick up, Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Bring a shovel and containers and be prepared to dig.

Updates During Winter Emergencies
The Department of Public Works plows and treats City maintained streets and City parking lots to clear snow and ice during winter storms. Public Works crews are staffed around the clock during snow emergencies to clear the 51 road miles of City streets. For questions, or to report a City road that hasn't been plowed, please contact the Department at 240-487-3590.

Right-of-Way Pruning
City crews are working to prune vegetation, tree and/or shrub branches, that are overhanging into the public right-of-way to improve clearance for pedestrians on the sidewalk and vehicular clearance on the street. Pruning may include City trees & shrubs as well as vegetation growing from private property. The crew will be working in the following neighborhoods: Old Town, Calvert Hills, and the west side of Rhode Island Ave between Baltimore Ave. and Rhode Island Ave., from Blackfoot Rd. to Edgewood Rd. Work will continue through the winter, weather permitting. Please contact the horticulturist at DPW with questions.

Final Curbside Leaf Collection
Tentative due to impending inclement weather forecast.
Please note, this is the final curbside leaf collection of the season. The leaf vacuum will service each street in the collection area one last time. Please make sure leaves are placed out for collection before the first day listed on the collection schedule as the truck will be continuing final collections in other areas.
The forecasted winter weather for the upcoming weekend may cause further collection delays. Click here for the most recent leaf calendar.

Styrofoam Recycling
A temporary drop-off container will be at the entrance to Public Works for Styrofoam recycling through the end of January. Bring in your holiday Styrofoam packaging to keep it out of the landfill.

Holiday Light Recycling
Holiday string lights, working or non-working, are accepted for recycling at MOM’s Organic Market, 9801 Rhode Island Avenue, College Park. The string lights are collected for recycling in December and January.
Please remove lights from bags/packaging and place in designated holiday lights recycling bin located in the lobby when you enter MOM’s Organic Market.

Recycle Your Christmas Tree
Christmas trees are collected by appointment only. Please remove ornaments, tinsel, and decorations, before placing it at the curb. If using a plastic bag, please remove tree from the bag. To schedule a collection call 240-487-3590 or email publicworks@collegeparkmd.gov.

1/2 Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Stop Sign Enforcement) at Saint Andrews Place and Duke Street. 7 warning citations were issued.
1/5 Contract officers assisted Beat Officers and responded to a theft in the 8100 block of Baltimore Avenue. Contract officer stopped the suspects as the incident was handled by the beat officer.
1/5 Contract officer responded to a call for service for a report of a suspicious person in the 9500 block 48th Place. Area was checked with negative results.
1/6 Contract officer responded to a call for service for a report of a towing dispute at 8100 block of Baltimore Avenue. The parties were advised that the issue was a civil matter.
