All City Offices Closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day
|
All City Offices will be closed on Monday, January 21, 2019 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Refuse and recycling collections will shift forward one day (Monday collections will occur on Tuesday, Tuesday collections on Wednesday, and so forth) and special collections will only occur on Friday next week.

Last night and this morning, DPW has been monitoring and treating several areas for the 1-inch of snow we had overnight Thursday into Friday.
Crews worked last weekend (Jan. 12-13) on the snow event that dumped 12 inches of snow on College Park. Crews worked around the clock in 12 hour shifts until all roads were cleared.
Department of Public Works crews participated in hands-on Chain Saw training on Wednesday.
Weekly collection of soft yard waste has resumed on your regular trash collection day. Leaves will need to be put in paper yard waste bags or in containers.
Christmas trees are collected on Thursdays and Fridays. To ensure collection, call 240-487-3590 or email

to schedule an appointment.
The City has a program to reimburse the cost (up to $150.00) of approved trees on private property, it’s called the Tree Canopy Enhancement Program (TCEP).

Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Speed Enforcement) in the 9000 block of Baltimore Avenue. (61 citations were issued as the officer was operating the portable “Mobile Camera.”)

Contract officers responded to a call for service for a report of a Breaking and Entering Report in the 4700 block of Pontiac Street. Residence check and no crime committed.

Contract officer on routine patrol observed an occupied suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn located at 9137 Baltimore Avenue. Field interview conducted after the officer smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Field Observation Report completed.

Contract officers responded to the area of Baltimore Avenue and Cherry Hill Road for the report of the sound of gunshots. Area check with negative results.

Public Forum: Charter Review Commission

The City of College Park has established a Charter Review Commission (CRC) to hear from our residents on the benefits and concerns associated with changing the length of the term for elected officials from two to four years, and on the benefits and concerns related to staggering those terms or having them run concurrently.
The Commission’s first Public Forum will be held on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 4500 Knox Road.
