Christmas tree recycling will occur in the month of January by the Department of Public Works. Trees will be collected by appointment only. To request a pickup, please call 240-487-3590 or email publicworks@collegeparkmd.gov . Please remove all decorations and place the tree at the curb for collection.

Purple Line Construction Notice
F rom the Purple Line: Starting on Saturday, January 12, 2019, crews will be working at the pump station along Campus Drive near the College Park Metro Station from Baltimore Avenue to River Road between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. for the remainder of Saturdays in January.

City Manager's Office
City staff continue to work with Design Collective, the architect selected for the City Hall Project, on programming, space needs, and layout of the future building.

City staff are working with a financial adviser on developing financing options for the City Hall Project. Consideration may be given to developing a financing package that allows for funding of needed Duvall Field and Hollywood Streetscape improvements.

The City Manager’s Office has prepared for the Mayor and Council Annual Retreat, scheduled for Sunday, January 6 in the Council Chambers at City Hall. More information can be found  here .

The City Manager’s Office and Planning Department have prepared comments concerning the plans and design of the Calvert Road School / Childcare facility. The City was asked by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) to prepare comments on the plans for the historic building and new construction and to present those comments at the Calvert Road School Consulting Parties Meeting. This is a DHCD meeting to resolve the Maryland Historical Trust’s (MHT) finding of an adverse effect associated with the redevelopment of this building.

The City is gearing up for budget season. City departments will soon be asked to prepare their FY20 Budget requests. The Budget timeline and schedule can be found  here .  

Human Resources together with the City Manager’s Office have been reviewing and providing much needed updates to personnel policies. 

June 2019 marks the end of a three year contract with AFSCME, the bargaining unit representing certain Department of Public Works employees. Human Resources and the City Manager’s Office are preparing for union negotiations scheduled to occur this spring.

Refuse and recycling collections are back to the regular schedule

Curbside leaf collection ends next Friday, January 11, 2019. Next week we will be in SA5, SA6, SA7, SA1 and SA2. After next Friday, residents are reminded that we go back to our regular weekly soft yard waste collection and leaves will need to be bagged or containerized.

The City has a program to reimburse the cost (up to $150.00) of approved trees on private property, it’s called the Tree Canopy Enhancement Program (TCEP). Click here for more information and application.

Weekly Highlights of Contract Police Activity
December 21 - 27, 2018
12/22 Contract officer conducted a suspicious person stop at 9701 Baltimore Avenue. A field interview was conducted, and the subject was wanted on an outstanding warrant. The suspect was transported to District I for processing.

12/23 Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Speed Enforcement) in the 9000 block of Baltimore Avenue. (17 citations were issued as the officer was operating the portable “Mobile Camera.”

12/27 Contract officers responded to a security alarm in the 10000 block of Baltimore Avenue. The alarm was accidentally activated.

Officers conducted directed patrol at the student housing locations throughout the city to prevent the breaking and entering. It appears we had little crime over the winter break!

City Tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Join us for the 28th Annual City Tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Saturday, January 12. 2019 from 2:00 -3:30 p.m. at The Clarice located on the University of Maryland campus. This inspirational and educational event is free and for all ages. 

This year's theme is "Injustice Anywhere is a Threat to Justice Everywhere" presented by the 2019 Keynote Speaker Melvin C. High. Mr. High is Prince George's County Sheriff. 

Free event parking is available nearby in University Lots 1b and Z all day on Saturdays (excluding home football games). These lots are about a 2-5 minute walk to the venue. There are also paid parking options in the Stadium Drive Garage as well.
