ANNOUNCEMENTS
Community Meeting: Cherry Hill Road Median

On Monday, July 19, 2021 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Prince George's County is hosting a community meeting to discuss the median option along Cherry Hill Road at the Shopping Center.

The project is to address the following issues:
  1. Left turning traffic from eastbound Cherry Hill into the easternmost College Park Market Place shopping center entrance.
  2. Left turning traffic from the eastern most College Park Market Place shopping center entrance on to eastbound Cherry Hill Road.
  3. Traffic turning into and out of Autoville Drive from Cherry Hill Road.
  4. Traffic backed up on westbound Cherry Hill Road leading into the Starbucks in the College Park Market Place shopping Center. 

New Bulk Trash Changes Started July 1, 2021

For a single-family, owner-occupied residence:
  • Up to four (4) bulky refuse collections per calendar year, with a maximum total of 20 bulky refuse items, will be free of charge to the resident.

For a single-family rental property that pays for City trash services:
  • Up to four (4) bulky refuse collections per calendar year, with a maximum total of 29 bulky refuse items, will be free of charge.
 
For quantities and/or frequency more than stated above, a $20 collection fee per item over the allowable number of items will be imposed. A waiver may be available for major extenuating circumstances on a limited basis.
 
Please note: Residents will have the opportunity to bring items to Public Works at no cost during the six cleanup Saturdays which are usually held in the Fall and Spring.

All bulky refuse collections must be scheduled in advance and the caller must identify the quantity and type of items when scheduling a collection.

Bulky refuse items must be set out neatly. Department of Public Works staff will provide guidance when you make your appointment. Call 240-487-3590 or email [email protected].

The City of College Park is currently offering free summer parking at the City’s Downtown Garage all-day Saturdays and Sundays and weekday evenings after 5:00 p.m. Hurry, this promotion ends on August 22, 2021! Visit your favorite Downtown College Park restaurant or business this summer!

There were no violations of the Noise Ordinance, Article I, 141-1 Danger to Public Safety/Health or Article II, 141-13 Unruly Social Gatherings.
Weekly Highlights of Contract Police Activity
July 2 - 8, 2021
7/2 Contract officer conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle with loud exhaust at Baltimore Avenue and University Blvd. The driver was issued 2 warning citations and 1 SEROs.

7/2 Contract officer conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle with loud exhaust at Baltimore Avenue and Lakeland Road. The driver was issued 3 warning citations and 1 SERO.

7/2 Contract officer conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle with loud exhaust at University Blvd and Baltimore Avenue. The driver was issued 1 citation and 1 SEROs.
7/3 Contract officer conducted stop sign enforcement at Saint Andrews Place and Duke Street. During the officer’s enforcement 12 warnings were issued
7/3 Contract officer conducted a traffic stop at Baltimore Avenue / Cherry Hill for loud exhaust. The driver was issued 5 citations and 2 equipment repair orders
7/4 Contract officer conducted stop sign enforcement at Saint Andrews Place and De Pauw Place. During the enforcement, the officer issued 13 citations and 6 warnings.
7/4 Contract officer conducted a traffic stop for loud exhaust in the 7700 block of Baltimore Avenue. During the stop the officer issued 2 citations and equipment repair order
7/5 Contract officer conducted a traffic stop at Metzerott Road and University Blvd. During the traffic stop the officer discovered the driver was in possession of cocaine. The driver was arrested and transported to the Department of Corrections.
7/6 Contract officer was contacted by the City of College Park reference graffiti on the building at Duvall field. Officer responded photographed the building and wrote the property damage report.
7/6 Contract officer conducted speed enforcement with the in multiple locations. 103 “Mobile” citations were issued
7/6 Contract officer responded to the 4700 block of Berwyn House Road for an indecent exposure report. Once on scene the officer made contact with the victim and quickly broadcasted a lookout for the suspect. During the area canvas officer located a suspect who matched the description. A show up was conducted, and a positive identification was made. The subject was arrested and transported to the Department of Corrections.
