City Statement on City Manager Position

On May 4, 2021, the City of College Park announced the hiring of Natasha S. Hampton as the new City Manager. After much reflection, the Mayor and City Council and Ms. Hampton announced today an end to their employment relationship.

The City’s Mayor and Council will immediately re-open the search process to select a new City Manager. The City expects to fill the position by the end of the summer. Until the position is filled, Bill Gardiner will continue to serve as the Interim City Manager. – WEB LINK

The City is Hiring!

Position Available: Part-Time Contract Secretary
 
The City is seeking a part-time Contract Secretary to attend, record, and prepare minutes for evening Advisory Board meetings. This position requires a reliable person with strong grammar and secretarial skills to prepare a summary of the proceedings, make approved revisions, and provide a final set of minutes in a timely manner. This assignment does not require word-for-word reporting. Meetings are currently being conducted via Zoom, but will normally be held at public facilities in College Park on weekday evenings.
 
Contract rate is $22.00 per hour, with a guaranteed minimum of two hours per meeting, plus payment for preparation of minutes at $11.00 per half-hour. We estimate six to twelve hours per month to start, depending upon board assignments. Please submit a cover letter and resume to: College Park City Clerk’s Office, 8400 Baltimore Avenue, Suite 375, College Park, MD 20740, or email to [email protected]
The Jack Perry Award

From May 15 to July 15 each year, any resident, neighborhood association or organization in the City may submit a nomination for the Jack Perry Award. Nominations should be submitted in writing to the City Clerk for the City of College Park, 8400 Baltimore Avenue, Suite 375, College Park, MD, 20740, or by e-mail to [email protected]. Nominations will be reviewed by a Committee that includes a member of the Perry family. This non-monetary award will be presented by the City Council in the fall. Metro’s Summer 2021 Platform Improvement Project

Starting Saturday May 29, Metro’s Greenbelt, College Park-U of Md, Prince George’s Plaza and West Hyattsville stations will be closed for the Platform Improvement Project.

There were no municipal infractions issued for the Noise Ordinance, Article I, 141-1 Danger to Public Safety/Health or Article II, 141-13 Unruly Social Gatherings.

May 21 - May 27, 2021
5/20 Contract officer conducted a pedestrian stops for crosswalk violations at the Baltimore Avenue and Knox Road. 10 warnings were issued.

5/21 Contract officer conducted a pedestrian stops for crosswalk violations at the Baltimore Avenue and Knox Road. 11 warnings were issued

5/21 Contract officer conducted a foot patrol in the area of Knox Road and Baltimore Avenue when he came across an extremely intoxicated individual. The officer assisted the individual and was able to get them home safely.

5/21 Contract officer conducted traffic enforcement on the Baltimore Avenue corridor near the car wash and issued 2 equipment repair orders and 2 warnings.

5/22 Contract officer conducted a traffic stop at Baltimore Avenue and Lakeland Road and issued 2 warnings.

5/22 Contract officers responded to the 4800 block of Berwyn House Road for the sounds of gun shots. Contract officers were first on scene and located 7 fired shell casings on the ground but did not locate a victim. The shell casing were recovered by patrol.

5/22 Contract officer conducted a pedestrian stops for crosswalk violations at the Baltimore Avenue and Knox Road. 21 warnings were issued.

5/23 Contract officer conducted a traffic enforcement in the 7300 block Princeton Ave 1 citation and 3 warnings were issued.

5/25 Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Speed Enforcement) in the 9000 blk. Baltimore Avenue and issued 65 “Mobile” Camera violations.

5/26 Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Speed Enforcement) in the 4800 blk. Greenbelt Rd
9 citations were issued to the drivers.

Duvall Field Park Design Meeting

A community meeting will be held virtually on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 7:00 pm to discuss the park design at Duvall Field. Three conceptual design alternatives will be presented for review and feedback. Please attend and let the City staff and consultant know your preferences for activities and amenities to be included in the final design. Mosquito Workshop

Please join the City of College Park’s Committee for a Better Environment and Stephen Panossian, Contractual Agricultural Inspector II, and Catharine Love, Contractual Agricultural Inspector II, at the Maryland Department of Agriculture, Mosquito Control Section – on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. for a Mosquito Workshop.

This webinar will cover the primary mosquito pest to homeowners, the Asian Tiger Mosquito. Virtual attendees will learn about its biology, habits, and habitats around a resident's home. Methods to reduce its population, including the Gravid Aedes trap (GAT), and use of repellents will also be discussed.
