All City Offices Closed on Memorial Day

All City offices will be closed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, 2021. Refuse and recycling will occur one day later than normal during this holiday week:

  • Monday collections will occur Tuesday, June 1
  • Tuesday collections will occur Wednesday, June 2
  • Wednesday collections will occur Thursday, June 3
 
Special collections for brush and bulky items will only be scheduled for Friday, June 4, of this holiday week. Call 240-487-3590 or email [email protected] to schedule a pickup before setting items out to the curb. To help avoid the transmission of COVID-19, the City of College Park will not be holding a public event at the Veterans Memorial.

Free Summer Parking at the City's Downtown Garage

Starting May 24, 2021, the City of College Park is offering free summer parking at the City’s Downtown Garage all-day Saturdays and Sundays and weekday evenings after 5:00 p.m. Hurry, this promotion ends on August 22, 2021! Visit your favorite Downtown College Park restaurant or business this summer!
2021 Youth Summer Camp Scholarships - Deadline Extended!

The City of College Park is moving forward with offering our annual summer camp scholarships. Youth (rising K-12) who reside in the City of College Park are eligible to apply. Scholarships are granted up to a maximum of $400 per student. The application deadline was extended to Friday, June 4, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.

Grounds Keeper II, Laborer - Grounds, Racial Equity Officer, and a part-time Temporary Summer Position
Position Available: Part-Time Contract Secretary
 
The City is seeking a part-time Contract Secretary to attend, record, and prepare minutes for evening Advisory Board meetings. This position requires a reliable person with strong grammar and secretarial skills to prepare a summary of the proceedings, make approved revisions, and provide a final set of minutes in a timely manner. This assignment does not require word-for-word reporting. Meetings are currently being conducted via Zoom, but will normally be held at public facilities in College Park on weekday evenings.
 
Contract rate is $22.00 per hour, with a guaranteed minimum of two hours per meeting, plus payment for preparation of minutes at $11.00 per half-hour. We estimate six to twelve hours per month to start, depending upon board assignments. Please submit a cover letter and resume to: College Park City Clerk’s Office, 8400 Baltimore Avenue, Suite 375, College Park, MD 20740, or email to [email protected]
The Jack Perry Award

From May 15 to July 15 each year, any resident, neighborhood association or organization in the City may submit a nomination for the Jack Perry Award. Nominations should be submitted in writing to the City Clerk for the City of College Park, 8400 Baltimore Avenue, Suite 375, College Park, MD, 20740, or by e-mail to [email protected]. Nominations will be reviewed by a Committee that includes a member of the Perry family. This non-monetary award will be presented by the City Council in the fall. Metro’s Summer 2021 Platform Improvement Project

Starting Saturday May 29, Metro’s Greenbelt, College Park-U of Md, Prince George’s Plaza and West Hyattsville stations will be closed for the Platform Improvement Project.

May 14 - May 20, 2021
5/14 Contract officer conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle with loud exhaust in the 7300 block of Baltimore Ave and University Blvd. The driver was issued 1 citation.

5/15 Contract officer conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle with loud exhaust in the 9000 block of Baltimore Ave and University Blvd. The driver was issued 2 citations.

5/18 Contract officer conducted an enforcement for loud exhaust at 51st and Cree Lane. No violations.

5/18 Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Speed Enforcement) in the 9000 Baltimore Ave and issued 82 Dragon Camera violations.

5/19 Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Speed Enforcement) in the 9000 Baltimore Ave and issued 65 Dragon Camera violations.

5/20 Contract officers responded to the 4600 block of Harvard Road for a suicidal person. Officers spoke to a person of interest as he stated assistance was not needed. Officers determine the person was not in need of medical help but left him with several services to call if assistance was needed later.

CITY EVENTS AND RECREATION
Duvall Field Park Design Meeting

A community meeting will be held virtually on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 7:00 pm to discuss the park design at Duvall Field. Three conceptual design alternatives will be presented for review and feedback. Please attend and let the City staff and consultant know your preferences for activities and amenities to be included in the final design. Mosquito Workshop

Please join the City of College Park’s Committee for a Better Environment and Stephen Panossian, Contractual Agricultural Inspector II, and Catharine Love, Contractual Agricultural Inspector II, at the Maryland Department of Agriculture, Mosquito Control Section – on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. for a Mosquito Workshop.

This webinar will cover the primary mosquito pest to homeowners, the Asian Tiger Mosquito. Virtual attendees will learn about its biology, habits, and habitats around a resident's home. Methods to reduce its population, including the Gravid Aedes trap (GAT), and use of repellents will also be discussed.
