Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation
This Earth Month, join Mayor Patrick Wojahn in acting to reduce College Park’s water consumption and energy use by taking the Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation.

Visit  www.mywaterpledge.com  throughout the month of April to take a pledge to conserve resources around your home. Simple choices like shortening shower times, using reusable bags, and scooping pet waste make a difference.

College Park will be competing with other cities around the country to see which city can be the most water wise – your pledge could help us win! If our city has the highest percentage of participating residents taking the pledge, you will earn a chance to win prizes including $3,000 towards your home utility bills, home improvement store gift cards, and more. We’re all in this together!
A WEEK IN REVIEW
Office of the City Manager
Last Friday, the City held a staff recognition event and award ceremony to honor our City employees who have gone above and beyond and/or have dedicated many years to the City. Thank you to all the staff who came - we had a really great time!

Save the Date for College Park Day on October 5, 2019! This year's event will once again be held at the College Park Aviation Museum and Airport.

Staff continue to develop and train on the Accela software for code enforcement, business licensing, planning, asset management, and customer relations management. The launch is planned for this coming fall.
Department of Public Works
A pedestrian diversion fence on Knox Road and Baltimore Avenue was removed and repaired; it is scheduled to be re-installed soon.

Since April 1, the food scrap drop-off program has diverted 1,027 lbs. from the landfill! The program expands to the two Farmers Markets starting this weekend.

During the final clean-up Saturday held on 4/26/19, we had 50 visitors drop off a variety of items. The Department sold 2 rain barrels, 8½ cubic yards of compost and ½ cubic yard of wood mulch.

The request for a lane closure permit was approved by SHA for work in the Baltimore Avenue landscaped median north of Ikea Way. The ornamental grass was cut to remove dead material and stimulate new vegetative growth; weeds were removed and mulch was spread.

A new grill was installed on the north side of the Duvall Field concession building and 2 new fiberglass umbrellas were installed in tables on the plaza.

The beige yard waste carts are selling fast this time of year, call or stop by to get yours for $25.00; they help make yard clean-up a lot easier.

Rain barrels are back in stock, they cost $72 and you can apply for the Prince George’s County rain check rebate to offset the cost.

Request for Exemption from Adult Mosquito Control Services.
  • The Maryland Department of Agriculture Mosquito Control Program will begin in late May. Any resident who wishes to have his/her property excluded from adult mosquito control pesticide applications by truck-mounted ultra-low volume (ULV) sprayers must fill out this form annually. Click here for application.

Spring is a great time to plant trees! If you would like a tree planted in the right-of way in front of your home, please contact Brenda Alexander to discuss options at 240-487-3595 or balexander@collegeparkmd.gov .

The City has a program to reimburse the cost (up to $150.00) of approved trees on private property called the Tree Canopy Enhancement Program (TCEP). Click here for more information and the application.

Sale ends Tuesday, April 30 for 25% off compost (pick-up orders onl). We are open from 7:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. this Saturday, April 27 for compost and mulch sales. The Department is regularly open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. for purchase and pick-up.
