The Coming Week
This Week at All Souls
Friday, July 12

Young Souls Potlucks , held at members’ homes, are great events for newcomers. This month, the potluck is hosted by Jess and Michael. Please bring a dish or drink to share with everyone. Questions? Contact Matt (mattkriegervii@gmail.com). 7:00 pm, see listserv for the address.

Sunday, July 14

Attention Grabbing. Rev. Hardies. Our attention—our ability to see and carefully notice the world—is on of our most important spiritual powers. Yet a lot of monied and powerful interests seek to distract and control our attention. How can we resist the colonization of our attention and remain whole spiritual beings? 10:15 am, sanctuary.

All Souls Housing Ministry Monthly Meeting . Join us to discuss opportunities to partner with the CHANGE All Souls Housing Corporation, among other topics. All are welcome. 11:30 am, Tupper Room.

Migrant Solidarity Team Weekly Impacted Community Canvass . Raids, arrests, and deportations continue. Many of our neighbors are afraid to go to the store, work, school, or even the doctor. The urgency of these times calls us to be on the right side of history, and so, every Sunday after the service, we will go into the neighborhood to share current info on ICE’s operations so others can avoid incarceration. We’ll distribute a number to call if ICE is spotted; a response team keeps track of ICE activity. The hot line number also connects people who need rides to ICE check-ins. We hand out cards with “Know Your Rights” information, which is highly effective in keeping people out of detention. We head out in teams of two. Spanish, French, Hindi, or Arabic are helpful but not required. Bring a reusable water bottle and comfy shoes; we’ll provide all the rest. Text questions to Rene Pinilla (646.675.1615) or Denise Woods (202.415.9757). Every Sunday, 11:45 am, meet in the Reeb Lobby.

Mindful Souls provides an opportunity to meet in community regularly at the church for meditation, followed by discussion led by congregants or others from our broader DC community. We welcome all who wish to attend. Every Sunday, 12:00 noon, classroom 2.

Tuesday, July 16

We will celebrate the life of All Souls member Sybil Christian , who died on May 22, 2019, with a memorial service and light reception. Tue., Jul. 16, at 11:00 am, sanctuary.

Sunday, July 21

Join the 2019-20 Sunday Lunch Ministry! Come for a brunch and meeting where we’ll pick dates of next year’s lunches, envision the ministry’s future, and coordinate volunteers. Bring ideas about good food and community building. We’re inviting other ministries that have a stake in how our luncheons operate, so invite friends who may want to participate directly or tangentially. Sun., Jul. 21, after service.

Young Souls Brunches are excellent events to attend if you are new. Questions? Contact Matt (mattkriegervii@gmail.com). Sun., Jul. 21, 1:00 pm, meet in Pierce Hall and walk to a nearby restaurant.

Justice for 2nd Lt Richard Collins III
On May 20, 2017, Richard Collins was murdered on the campus of the UMD College Park by an Alt Reich follower in an unprovoked act of cowardice and hate. His murder occurred two days after his being commissioned by the U.S. Army and two days before he was to graduate from Bowie State University. More than two years since his death, his murderer’s trial begins in July. In a show of solidarity of support for the family and to stand against hate, please consider doing the following: publicize this story by sharing and liking it on your FB page ( www.facebook.com/2ltrwc/ ); and attend the trial on any day(s) from July 22 through August 2 (PG County Courthouse, 15735 Main St., Upper Marlboro, MD 20772). #SitDown2StandUp
Beware of Scam Emails!
We want everyone to be aware that scammers have been impersonating Rev. Hardies and others and sending emails to congregants asking that they buy gift cards or lottery tickets to support the church or congregants in need. These con artists harvest email addresses from the church website and online publications and send emails appearing to come from Rev. Hardies or members of All Souls. Please do not respond to any such email. Thank you.
