Dear Families,
SLE of the Month – April (Class Updates)
A St. Louise student is a life-long learner who communicates effectively through writing, speaking, and listening.
In Kindergarten, they celebrated Earth Day! Students listened to stories, sang songs, and learned ways they can help and hurt the Earth. Students also wrote about what they can do to take care of the Earth, and then they shared those ideas with their classmates.
In fifth grade, students demonstrated the SLE of the month by transforming into a person who made History, presenting the contributions they made, and listening to other oral histories. Students, spent two months writing timelines, articles, and diary entries as a person who made history, and placed themselves in the context of their time to provide an oral history to an audience.
In Mrs. Maloney’s 7th and 8th grade Science classes, students continue to develop and communicate their ideas by writing clear claims, providing various types of evidence, and reasoning for each science lab activity. In 7th grade, students explored waves and made claims on whether falling dominos are waves or not. In 8th grade, students created written CER’s and practiced communicating their theories as to how the Peppered Moths of England became darker following the industrial revolution.
Parent Survey Accreditation
We are in our first year of the Accreditation Process. Every 6 years, Catholic Schools go through a process of Accreditation intended to help schools develop their strengths, ensure effective governance, and provide the best educational experiences for their students. The primary objective of accreditation is ongoing school improvement. Through this process, the teachers, faculty, and staff have been working hard in collecting data, evidence, and information of our school which will be put into a self-study document. Today, we ask that parents fill out the following survey that will let us know about your perceptions of our school programming. Your answers will remain anonymous and please fill out the survey by Friday, May 12th, 2023. Thank you for your time and feedback.

Walk-A-Thon – Friday, May 12th, 2023
We are so excited to start Spirit Week on Monday and end the week with our annual Walk-A-Thon. The Walk-a-Thon is one of our required annual fundraisers and this year we have the goal of raising $42,000. The Parents' Club uses these funds to pay for student enrichment assemblies, curriculum additions, to sponsor parent education classes and family social events (that will be resurrected next school year!), as well as providing the faculty and staff with treats throughout the year. We can only meet our goal if every school family takes the time to contact friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers and ask if they can pledge in your student's name. Thank you for helping Parents’ Club!
Spirit Week runs the week of the walk! – May 8-12. Each day has a different theme. More details for each day are in the Parent Information Packet you received in last week’s Thursday envelope.
• Monday, May 8 – Crazy Hat Day – Students wear uniforms today.
• Tuesday, May 9 – Poster Day & Favorite Sports Team Dress
• Wednesday, May 10 – Grade Level Colors Day
• Thursday, May 11 – Cheer Day – Students wear uniforms today.
• Friday, May 12 – Walk-A-Thon Day!!
Please read through the Parent Information Packet if you have questions about how and when to go about collecting donations. There are some fun prizes for students and classrooms that raise the most money or walk the most laps!
The Walk-a-Thon is a fantastic event that raises funds, spirits, and heart rates! Thanks in advance for all of your support and participation!
All parents are welcome and invited to the fun event to root students on as they circle the track!!
Nominations Needed – Volunteer Extraordinaire
We have wonderful volunteers at St. Louise School, and each June we honor 3 of them with the Volunteer Extraordinaire Awards. I am asking you and the faculty to nominate volunteers to be considered for this award. Nominees must have a history of positively volunteering for the St. Louise School community. Past recipients of the award include Rebecca Nightingale, Joni Hoffman, and Ingrid Flaat. Do you wish to nominate a fellow parent? If so, please email your nomination to Mr. Fuerte, along with an explanation of why the person deserves to be considered. Thanks for your help!

Staff Updates
After extensive interviews last week, I am happy to announce our new 3rd grade teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. This teacher has previously worked at St. Louise, most recently, two years ago, as our 2nd grade teacher. I would like to formally announce that Mrs. Cathy Woods will be returning to St. Louise as our new 3A teacher next year. The faculty and staff are excited to welcome Cathy Woods back. Here is a message from her below:
Hi St. Louise family! I am so excited to be returning to St. Louise in the fall! For those of you who don’t know me, I taught at St. Louise for four years, two years as the Reading Specialist and two years as a second-grade teacher. I’m now excited to come back and partner in third grade with Mrs. Berlin. I’ve been a teacher for 30 years in Idaho and Washington. I’ve taught Special Education, reading, first, second, third, fifth, and sixth grades, mainly in Catholic Schools. Third grade is one of my favorite grades to teach. I look forward to reuniting with the St. Louise community!
