CITY DEPARTMENTS
Department of Public Works
May 20 through 26 is National Public Works week and we would like to thank all our Public Works employees for their dedication and commitment to the City. The Department is responsible for refuse, recycling, and yard waste collections; snow plowing; leaf vacuuming; landscaping and tree maintenance; compost and wood mulch production; installing/replacing signs and general upkeep of the City facilities.

Prince George’s County employees performed mowing operations in the Narragansett Parkway storm water conveyance channel.

City Manager Scott Somers met with about 25 North College Park residents to discuss a potential dog park location on the east side of 51st Avenue between Indian Lane and Fox Street. The desired dog park location will be located on the parcel owned by Prince George’s County School Board, and permission will need to be obtained from the School Board to proceed with park development.

Requests for replacement street trees are now being accepted for fall planting. Call 240-487-3590 or email Brenda Alexander at [email protected] .

Spring is a great time of year for tree planting. City of College Park property owners can utilize the Tree Canopy Enhancement Program (TCEP) for reimbursement of the cost of an approved tree up to $150.00 annually for tree(s) planted on their residential lot. See our website or call Brenda Alexander for more information.

Backyard Composting Bins are available to purchase from the Department for $20.00 (City residents) and $40.00 (non-residents).

Mosquito Spraying and Exclusion from Spraying
  • MDA is looking for locations around College Park to try a new monitoring type of mosquito trap on a trial basis. This type of trap will be used to identify existing population levels at a specific location. MDA will need permission to access the private yard on a weekly basis, no dogs on property. Please call the City Sustainability Coordinator, Janet for more information 240-487-3593.
  • The City of College Park cooperates with the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) to identify and control mosquito populations. Larviciding treatments are made by MDA personnel. Wednesday night is the designated day when spraying for adult mosquitoes will occur in College Park. Spraying to control mosquitoes begins in early June. MDA has initiated a new spray request procedure; to put in a spray request please click here.
  • Request for Exemption from Adult Mosquito Control Services. Any resident who wishes to have his/her property excluded from adult mosquito control pesticide applications by truck-mounted ultra low volume (ULV) sprayers must fill out this form annually. Click here for the application
