Weekly Bulletin - March 16, 2023

Dear Families,

As we continue with our 3rd week of Lent, I look to prayer to help me with my day. Examples of some short prayers for the upcoming week:

  • “God may Your light guide my day, and your spirit bring me peace. Amen.”
  • “God may my sacrifice of today of (state your Lenten sacrifice) remind me of my dependence on You for all the blessings I enjoy. Amen.”
  • ” May I stand in solidarity today with all my brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. May we be united in your love, and may I work to build your kingdom here on earth.”
  • “Heavenly Father, I’m truly sorry for the moments today where I missed the mark. I ask for your forgiveness and the strength to better follow Your call tomorrow. Amen.”
  • ” God, I lift up (name of the person you’d like to pray for) today. I ask that you bless them abundantly today and throughout Lent. Amen.”
  • “Oh Jesus, I surrender myself to you, take care of everything. Amen.”

2023-2024 – Important Dates

Some of you have been asking about important dates for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. I will be finalizing the calendar in the next couple of weeks and will be able confirm dates for Passport Day, Mandatory Student-Teacher-Parent Conferences, Christmas Break, Mid-Winter Break, Easter Break, and the Last Day of School. The official 2023-2024 calendar will be ready by May. Thank you for your patience.

Taco Tuesday – Standing with Haiti Fundraiser

Next Tuesday, March 21st is our all-school Taco Lunch fundraiser! This fundraiser will benefit our sister school, St. Anne’s in Haiti.

Haiti has a painful history. It has been devastated by several natural disasters, political instability, and violence. St. Anne's, located several hours from Port-au-Prince, has no electricity or running water. Over the past 13 years they've had their church and school destroyed, rebuilt, and destroyed again by hurricanes.

Standing with Haiti, a partnership between St. Anthony's and St. Louise to support St. Anne's, has been able to provide a new school for grades K-12. In addition, funds raised pay for the day-to-day operations of the school, uniforms, teacher salaries, textbooks and a daily meal program.

On Tuesday, March 21st, we will be having an all-school Taco Lunch to raise money and awareness for St. Anne's. This taco lunch will be in lieu of hot lunch. There will be no hot lunch on Tuesday, March 21st. Instead you may purchase 2 tacos for $5 or 4 tacos for $10 through OSV. (All tacos will be crunchy tacos with beef and the usual toppings.)

And since this is a fundraiser we are asking parents to sign-up here to donate an item for lunch.

If you wish to make a larger donation you may do so here.

Thank you for all the ways you give and for helping make these students' lives a little bit better. If you have questions, please email [email protected] if you have any questions.

Annual Fund – Ends Tomorrow

Thank you to all the families who have already made their commitment to the Annual Fund! As of yesterday, March 15th we are at 45% of our school families. As you know, we work very hard to keep our tuition as accessible as possible for our community, yet we need to compensate our teachers for all their hard work providing the excellent education we have come to expect. The Annual Fund is one of our fundraisers that helps achieve that goal. Keep an eye on the “Pot of Gold” bulletin board in the school lobby to see it fill up every day with the generous donations of our families!

If you haven’t had a chance to make your Annual Fund donation, send in your check today or click here to contribute now https://www.osvhub.com/stlouiseschool/funds/annual-fund.

Have a Blessed Weekend,

A Message from Father Gary

Dear Friends at St. Louise,

I am sure that most of you are aware that the state mandate for face coverings for health facilities will end on April 3. This is another signal that the pandemic is behind us, although due cautions still need to be observed as we do for other communicable diseases. COVID 19 is not gone, but is much more manageable than before. Some facilities may still require mask-wearing even after the legal requirement is lifted.

In a similar way, our Archdiocese has previously allowed, but not mandated, the distribution of the Precious Blood of Christ at Mass. This decision was made because the medical community had determined that COVID is spread through aerosols (infected people exhale the virus and others inhale it) rather than through contact with saliva. As St. Louise pastor I decided our parish would wait until after the flu season to bring this cherished practice back at our Masses. Even though Christ is fully present under the symbol of bread, the fuller sign of that presence is expressed with communion under both kinds. In fact, a priest celebrating or concelebrating Mass is required to receive communion under both kinds.

We will offer the chalice to the faithful who choose to receive communion under both kinds at the Easter Vigil, and then at all Masses starting on Divine Mercy Sunday. I expect that fewer people than before the pandemic will be comfortable receiving communion from the chalice. The same norms apply as before: Do not receive communion from the chalice if you are sick or think that you are getting sick. The Eucharistic Minister will continue to wipe the chalice with the purificator and turn the chalice. The alcohol in the wine itself, plus wiping and turning of the chalice, will further reduce the chance of spreading germs among most people.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Fr. Gary Zender
