Prosecutors' offices and court systems across the nation are being impacted by COVID-19. Their daily work to maintain constitutional justice is being uprooted, altered, and halted. CNA and NDAA have partnered to actively develop and disseminate useful COVID-19 response resources to prosecutors and courts to support them during this trying time. This weekly bulletin shares helpful information and resources, as well as upcoming virtual networking events.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, adjustments have been made to conducting in-person forensic interviews and, in some instances, tele-forensic interviews are being used. East Baton Rouge, Louisiana
The East Baton Rouge District Attorney's Office released a document detailing their adaptation to the pandemic and has also launched a series of videos entitled "EBRDA From Home" to increase their ability to connect with the public. For more information click

The New Jersey Supreme Court announced a pilot program to reconvene grand juries virtually in two counties. For more information, click

Collin County, Texas
Collin County District Court held a summary jury trial on May 18th to test the capacity of the courts to conduct virtual jury trials regularly. Jurors heard a condensed version of the arguments and the verdict is non-binding. For more information, click

How are various jurisdictions handling grand juries during the pandemic?
Some jurisdictions, such as
Bexar County, Texas
, never stopped convening their grand juries, while others have had to adapt to the current situation.
Chatham County, Georgia
has discussed shifting their
grand juries into two separate panels which would meet simultaneously.
In
New Jersey
, two counties will begin grand juries via Zoom. Some
Pennsylvania
counties are preparing for their grand juries to reconvene by prioritizing cases to be heard and establishing screening procedures.
