Feature Article: Lumber Prices Are Soaring. Why are Tree Growers Miserable?
According to a recent article, the price of lumber per thousand board feet is at an all-time high, being up 193% from a year ago to $1,048.00 (vs $358.00 a year ago).
At the beginning of the pandemic, sawmills were cutting production; this at a time when Americans ramped up their own projects at their homes with Do-It-Yourself (DIY) projects. It was supply / demand in reverse.
The irony now is that sawmills are operating at optimum levels in attempting to meet the current demand which in turn has had an incredible negative impact on timber growers who now are facing the lowest prices in decades for logs.
