WPSBA SPOTLIGHTS YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH
EMOTIONAL WELLNESS WAS FRONT AND CENTER AT WPSBA's 11/29 snapshot session on Youth Mental Health First Aid. Similar to CPR training for physical health issues, this program is designed to teach participants how to best identify and support youth mental health situations. One in five children aged 13-18 will experience a severe mental health disorder - "Be the one to make a difference."
VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS CALLS FOR MORE HUGS
RESEARCH SHOWS THAT SCHOOL SHOOTERS SHARE a disconnectedness that leads to violence. The CDC outlines  four main pillars  of school connectedness: adult support, positive peer groups, a welcoming school environment, and student commitment to education. To help students feel safe in our schools, we need to invest in professional development and programs that focus on student engagement as well as emotional/mental health issues.
