Luncheon Lecture Series:
Take a Look at the Double-Crested Cormorant
October 5
11:30am

North Central Michigan College’s Luncheon Lecture series will explore the destructive double-crested cormorant on Friday, October 5. The program will be held in the Library Conference Center on the Petoskey campus. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program begins at noon.
The double-crested cormorant has caused outrage in the upper Great Lakes. Anglers say the birds destroy the fishery in places like the Les Cheneaux Islands where large colonies nest. They want lethal force used against the birds. Critics say that view puts humans and their desires at the center of everything. We will hear from Interlochen Public Radio's Peter Payette who travelled this spring with photographer Sam Corden to some of the remote islands where cormorants breed.

Charlevoix Restaurant Week

Charlevoix Farmers Market Location Moved This Week
The Charlevoix Farmers Market will be moved to the Parking Lot off of Mason Street behind The Clothing Company/next to Petals. The parking lot will be blocked off Wednesday night with no overnight parking so please take note and plan accordingly.

Downtown Construction Update
The MDOT contractor responsible for doing highway construction is no longer on strike and to complete the project yet this fall, MDOT has modified their original timing and scheduling. MDOT does not plan to do work during Apple Fest. MDOT has begun working on sidewalks and approaches. We expect they will wrap up by the end of this week.

The work that will be conducted by the city is scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week. The work is needed to change water line connections to reduce the risk of unplanned maintenance that would disrupt highway traffic (as we experienced this past winter). If the work is completed earlier than Wednesday the road will be opened back up at that time. The detour will be routed from Clinton to Park via State Street rather than a full downtown closure.
