Macomb Chamber eConnect
November 10, 2016                                                                             Weekly eConnect Newsletter
Has a new business popped up in your neighborhood? Encourage them to join the Macomb County Chamber!

Membership helps entrepreneurs accomplish several things: circulate business name, create networking opportunities, establish credibility, all while being affordable.

CIRCULATE BUSINESS NAME - From the moment a business joins the Chamber its name is shared in the community through ribbon cuttings with local elected officials and media and in the Chamber's newsletter and directory.  Through our many exclusive events, sponsorship opportunities exist to allow you to target specific audiences with your advertisement or other message.

NETWORKING - The Chamber offers free monthly member mixers, coffee connections, entrepreneurial discussions and events to help you meet other exciting businesses in the area.  Chamber LEADS are free meeting groups with more direct networking opportunities whereby only one representative from each industry is allowed and members exchange worthwhile leads with each other.

"We connect businesses in ways that they wouldn't have necessarily been connected before," explains David Gier, Macomb Chamber Director of Business Development.

ADVOCACY -The Macomb Chamber works to remain politically neutral except when it comes to advocating for our businesses. The Chamber is a powerful advocate for startup businesses' needs at the local and state levels, particularly when it comes to pushing for regulatory policies and governmental agendas that enhance the local entrepreneurial framework.

ESTABLISH CREDIBILITY - Membership in the Chamber demonstrates commitment to the business and the community.  It also identifies entities as having integrity and credibility, belonging to a well-recognized organization advocating for the business community.

AFFORDABILITY -  With low membership rates that can include local marketing and sponsorship opportunities, the Chamber is an economical investment to assist with business growth.  But did you know that all your employees can also reap the benefits of your organization being a member?  Bring them to Chamber events, share the weekly newsletters and eBlasts with them, and let them know about member-to-member benefits that come your way.  These member incentives and promotions are to be shared with your entire workforce.

Macomb Chamber Director of Membership Services, Bill Brey, emphasizes this point: "Your membership investment allows your business and the community to prosper.  Together we are powering Macomb County through business growth."

Detroit Zoological Society recognized

The Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) has been named one of Michigan's and the nation's 2016 Best and Brightest Sustainable Companies.  The awards are presented each year by the National Association for Business Resources to companies and organizations that exhibit leadership and innovation in their green and sustainability approach.
Recent DZS sustainability efforts include discontinuing the sale of bottled water on Detroit Zoo grounds - keeping 60,000 plastic bottles out of the waste stream annually - and building the first zoo-based anaerobic digester in the country, which will annually convert more than 400 tons of animal manure into methane-rich gas to help power the Detroit Zoo's animal hospital.  Additionally, the DZS last year joined the growing list of companies and organizations taking action to reduce the impact of their energy use by powering Zoo operations with 100 percent renewable energy from wind farms.
